All those who are sticking up for Craig here have a very short memory.

I've still not forgotten about the Dobson fiasco and the Red ripoff, but obviously you have?

Craig has a track record of wrongdoings in our community and those if you who want to turn a blind eye or just brush it under the carpet should be ashamed. Also don't forget that Craig has been more than a "bit mean" (to quote Ross Tayler), to many creators on the WPR if it wasn't so ironic, it would laughable.

Remember the blasting he dished out to Jeff McBride and the trouble he tried to start, including suggesting we boycott his products? It was disgusting to treat someone like that, but I guess you fan boys think that was ok?

There are much larger scale exposures going on, agreed.

That does not make this right. Another question is how many inconsequentials make a consequential?!

Without looking to get political, does the shooting of an individual not matter to the gun lobby because there are more large scale shootings?

Hey Jon-

I don't know if gun lobby or NRA are good analogies my friend.

NRA here in the USA does not care about big or small shootings - they simply exist to make sure anyone and everyone can own a gun. Period. Killings and shootings are ignored and irrelevent to the gun lobby. that's just a fact.

Lets stick with the main subject which is exposure.

Even if Craig et al does have participants sign a non-disclosure, is it really wise to *** our secrets out in the name of making $$$? For people who probaby mostly never had a passing interest in magic?

I'm not a Craig fan boy and have not shied away from criticism in the past.

And I am not sure I back him in this. Although I fail to see much harm in it, but non hobbyists will have a more valid pov.

But what I am doing is mocking you and your ilk.

Arch stirrer and Craig baiter Jamie F has set you all off like little clockwork toys and the incandescent hysteria over this is ridiculous.

Here's a thought, Google "team building with magic" and see just how prevalent this is.

Yes, but they are teaching people how to do the 21 card trick or the jumping rubber band, not how to fudge their way through a performance using apparatus that costs thousands and that is in the acts of professional illusionists worldwide.

Hey scoops,

Whilst you and Craig are both lurking about the Café.

Why don't you PM him to get his side of the story.

It's what Lois would do.

In fact, instead of hiding in the (very small) crowd, I would encourage everybody who is hurling abuse to contact Craig and express their views mano a mano.

Go on, don't be scared.

Finally, the voice of reason. Someone with some inside information. Clearly funnymagic knows which illusions are being exposed in order to state this. So what are they? Inquiring minds want to know!

I for one do not enjoy that. And it is the same 4 or 5 every time.

And if you took a poll, I would speculate that most café members are really tired of it.

So, has someone here finally decided where the line between "teaching" and "exposing" is? Everyone's been waiting for years to understand that, so please spell it out.

I'll check back later to get the full story, but I gotta go teach/expose the old chestnut "Two Card Monte" to a group of summer camp kids at the moment.

We have all been "searchers" at some point in our magical lives. We weren't yet magicians, but we were driven to investigate. We generally don't mind doing small, controlled exposures for the searchers. Many stop searching after a brief time and the lessons should end there.

Others become neophyte magicians and perhaps the search lasts for years or even a lifetime. Even within this group, exposure is controlled but far less tightly.

People who happen to be randomly assigned to be in the same room as you don't really qualify as students. Most magicians generally view their art and its practices as very special - not for general consumption.

This is appalling, exposing material that magicians are currently using in their acts is unbelievable. Most lay people will have no loyalty to the magic profession and will spread the word how they are performed. Where does it end when magicians like this will stoop this low.

I do not believe that teaching magic to corporate employees as a team building exercise is the right thing to do. Such a practice would seem to violate our code and possibly ethics.

But now I have to ask the questions, "Is teaching magic to children in hospital okay?" "Is teaching magic to seniors in a nursing home okay?" "Is teaching magic to troubled teens to boost their self esteem okay?"

Those three scenarios have been lauded as wonderful acts on the part of the magicians who provide these services. True, they don't do it for money (most of the time), and I would guess the effects being taught are not major stage illusions, but then again, is our problem with exposure in general or just exposure for gain? Where is the line drawn?

Personally, I would ask Craig to abandon this venture, but there are always different points of view, aren't there?

I agree that Craig seems to be trivializing our
craft. I never forgot how mean spirited he was
during his slanderous rant against Jeff McBride.

Jeff forgave him, but never forgot. I haven't
forgotten either.

Pimping magic should be discouraged.
