SOT is not only a great method and principle, but Ian has put out a great bound booklet that really details the workings of SOT.
Ian, when will all your other products be ready? That's Perfect It's The Thought That Counts Metal bending Full facts on cold reading 3rd edition I plan on buying all as soon as they are ready. Thank you Ian for your excellence!

Wow!
First off, I would like to commend Ian for getting this package to me in record time. I have never received anything faster from overseas. Second, I want everyone to know that I am equally as enthusiastic as you are about SOT. It is extremely devious and subtle. I'm going to start working on it right away. I like the SWIFT challenge effect that is detailed in the book because of how it slowly destroys any theories that the spectators might come up with. They are left with an unexplainable act of "seeing with the fingertips". Excellent!

SOT- thanks Ian! Just got it through the other day- you crafty devil! Definitely worth it- So many ideas keep coming. All we need now is the metal bending book- nothing on the market has really done the topic justice yet. But yes, I've got my work cut out playing around with this new concept!

Ian, when will all your other products be ready? I'm working on FF CR III now. Will be published this year, hopefully sooner rather than later. And this edition will be properly printed and bound if it kills me. Next projects in order: - a complete technical revamp to my website (it's out of date) - setting up a new website venture - setting up cold reading seminar in London for magicians/mentalists - That's Perfect - Thought That Counts Metal is shelved for the time being. It would be huge undertaking, a massive labour of love with a zillion photos (like the SOT illustrations) and I'm not sure there's much of a market for it. Unlike cold reading, metal-bending is a very visual subject, and I think the three current vids on the subject probably cover all the bases, especially Banachek's. That's Perfect is a card thing that precisely half the potential market wll hate and despise as one of the most worthless publications ever, and the other half will grow to love as much as I have ove rthe past 15 years of performing it more or less everywhere I go. The main publishing problem is that is more or less HAS to be a vid and booklet combined. I can't think of any way of explaining it properly in print alone. And producing a vid to explain one routine is a costly undertaking.

SOT,
as with most brilliant concepts/ideas/effects or whatever you may want to call them, SOT is worth its weight in gold to those who will use it. Some will use it all the time, I suspect many will save it for that special TV appearance or when they want to stunn a room full of folks in their own living room. THis will all depend upon your performing style and environment. I had an interesting experience the other day with a professional asking me about SOT. THey kept trying to guess what it could be, luckily Ian has that covered in the book as well. Fun to use some those lines. Those who have the book know what I am talking about, those who do not will just have to buy it. Thanks Ian for sharing this with the magic community. Brilliant!

I use SOT regularily. NOT with playing cards!
and the reactions are very deep groundet in absolute unbelievability! It is great if you use it in a wise way that fits individually! Millions of ways... Thanks Ian for opening this path of creation! Phanthomas |

To anyone who is interested, there is a routine in 13 Steps that kind of resembles the SWIFT Challenge card effect in SOT.
Look in Step 2 under the "Tricks Accomplished by the Art of Touch Reading" sub-section. The fourth effect is called "Psychic Sorting"(in my edition it's on page 45). It explains a method of marking the cards so that you can tell the color and suit just by touching them. The routine itself is kind of similar to Ian's. The cards are shuffled and you put them behind our back and bring out one card at a time and name it's color until you finish the whole deck. Then spectator picks a color and you seperate that color into suits the same way. Then Corinda suggests you go straight into Out of This World to finish. NOTE: THE METHOD USED BY CORINDA IS IN NO WAY SIMILAR TO SENSE OF TOUCH. Although the spectator shuffles the cards, they cannot closely examine all the cards or else they will find something. It is not a routine that can be done in the test conditions that is possible with SOT, and you definitely cannot make it a challenge routine as you can with SOT. However, Corinda's routine is designed so that close examination is not necessary. I personally like the routine, but would rather use SOT just in case they want to examine the whole deck. But if you present it right, they will have no reason to want to.

My copy of Sense of Touch arrived yesterday. Yeah! The booklet looks gorgeous, it's very well written and it seems like a wonderful effect. However - I'm having trouble actually ummm...."sensing" the cards. I just can't seem to sense anything at all.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong - I believe that I've followed the instructions perfectly. Does it just take lots of practice to be able to do it or is there something I should be trying? I didn't expect to be able to work the trick perfectly the first time I tried it, but I at least expected to be able to notice something. Any advice? |

It takes a bit of practice to sense the cards, but it will come eventually. I barely got 50% correct on my first attempt, but now it's more like 99%.
Of course, getting a few wrong helps make the effect that bit more entertaining. Andrew |

It took me all of 20 minutes to perform SOT with near-100% accuracy. Study the booklet; perhaps you're not doing the business correctly. Keep working at it and I'm sure you'll get it to work admirably.
I have found that the sublety contributed by Drew McAdams (I think) works best for me. Try that and it might work better,

OK, I went home last night and practiced for quite a while and I'm beginning to pick it up. I think the problem was that I was too "delicate" in the set up and not sensitive enough in the performance but I seem to be getting the hang of it now.
Definately a wonderful principle and well worth the price. I feel sorry for all you Frenchmen who are missing out |

I got the booklet and tried it out for a few people at work. I presented it as the "method" for a previous card trick, and then told them that most magicians were aware of the "fact" that certain brands of cards could be read by feeling the index.
"Why did you think Bicycles were so popular with magicians anyway? Here! try it!...you'll see what I mean." After a few half-assed attempts on their part, and a few subtle cues (on my part) to whether they had guessed correctly, they were convinced that reading indexes by touch was entirely possible. "Is it red?" "No." "Yeah, I thought it was black, I can totally feel the difference." Needless to say, when I mentioned it took practice, they lost all interest. Laziness, the mother of all misdirection. It's a great effect...now I can stop telling people I do card tricks with mirrors. |

it seems like telling them it was something so mundane killed the effect. perhaps a more magical approach would help things?
