I haven't seen notice on the Café yet regarding the death of Alan Greenberg. Alan was very active for more than 50 years in the New York magic scene and was a partner with Richard Kaufman in their venture publishing numerous important magic books. Additionally, he was a very successful and prominent Wall Street executive. Here is an article/obituary I wrote for the Magic in New York blog.

Alan "Ace" Greenberg was a titan of Wall Street for decades. He built Bear, Stearns into a financial powerhouse back in the 70s and 80s. Not too many people with his knowledge of the financial markets can also do a mean double lift! He was never reluctant to do a trick or two for clients or reporters and gave magic in NYC some real visibility among the movers and shakers. Thank you, Ace.

Ace was a real gentleman and a welcome addition to FFFF over the years. He was in attendance this past April and will will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones.

Ace Greenberg was also a world class bridge player, especially strong at rubber bridge and Chicago. Could hold his own with Al Roth, Ira Rubin, Granovetter, Stayman, Mitchell, Schenken, Trent--all the "tigers" of NYC bridge. I am sure LobowolfXXX has heard of him in that context.

Wow. Ace Greenberg. I haven't heard that name in years, but what an interesting guy. He was one of the brightest people I've ever met. It's easy to be intimidated when trying to talk with someone who is, very obviously, several steps above you on the intellectual ladder. Not so with Mr. Greenberg. He was genuinely interested in everybody and everything.
