Hello innercirclewannabe.
I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway, I didn't intend to offend anyone, not you, not Seethings. I did not even bash him, I just thought it's funny how he is repeating that Bairn is not original and did not even read it (I have read it, I loved it.) You are talking about opinions, but you don't accept mine? It is JUST my opinion, that Bairn is one of the most original and best releases in 2015 for me. Please, don't take this opinion as a fact, you are very welcome to make your own opinion, and since opinions are not FACTS, I hoped everybody would understand that it is just my opinion Love, Ulrich P.S. No, I haven't. But from all the books I read in 2015, Bairn is my favorite. Have you? |

Well, I haven't stated that I think ANY book is the best of 2015, so, it is irrelevant what books I may have read. You didn't offend me. Believe me, I am not the type to get offended on an on-line forum. It is not that I don't accept your opinion, rather, I don't think you can make such a definite statement about a book being "the best of the year", when you haven't read all of the others.
For what its worth, I have bought some of Kennedy's earlier work, and I liked it. I thought it was usable, IMO.

Ah, I think there was a misunderstandment... It is the best of the year SO FAR and, more importantly, FOR ME personally. Of course I didn't read them all, but from what I've read in 2015, Bairn is just MY favorite.
I don't want anyone to accept my opinion as a fact, I just wanted to share my opinon and to support Ken's work, which I'm a fan of I do see your point though and I understand it. Greetings, Ulrich |

I've just watched Ken's Penguin lecture.
I've said this continually over the years, Ken is the best in the business for revealing information in an entertaining way. And his best stuff isn't even in this lecture. Early on, you hear him describe some of his thoughts as regards how to take your audience on an emotional journey prior to the reveal - it is a pleasure to see someone who really has thought through their material so thoroughly. This lecture is full of great material, but even better philosophy. Watching it - and I'm hesitant to dredge this back up, but I think it does need to be addressed - I think Ken just slammed the door on the laughably indefensible claim that his work isn't "corporate". If you're on the fence at all about Bairn, get this lecture first - I've no doubt you'll see that while he doesn't feel the need to trumpet it around everywhere to bolster his credibility, Kennedy is the very definition of a professional. Well done Ken. Best, Atlas |

Inner monologue: "La di da,surfing the Internet in my insomnia...hmm, let's see if anyone has replied to my magic Café posts...hmm, nothing new there, what's going on in the mentalism forum...intersesting, oh, Kennedy's book, don't have that one yet but his lecture was quite nice! Wow, seven pages, let's just start at the end...weird, so much negativity, hmm, people saying his material isn't original, I thought he had some wonderful original ideas in the lecture, what are they talking about, hmm, can't tell, too vague, let's go to page six, Wha? Osterlind having to defend his own work completely unrelated to Kennedy's book, that's weird, I like Osterlind, nice guy...hmm more negativity, long rants wtf, well at least Jack Frost is keeping his cool and remaining a gentleman, Jesus, really so much negativity! Who has the time!"
Well, that does it for me with this thread, I'll get this book eventually as I thought Kennedy's Penguin lecture was fantastic, but trying to go back through this thread was like talking to drugged patients in a mental ward. How does anyone have the time to sift through all the negative junk and get anything from these boards. I would love to be more active with the community online but I can't take the darkness of this place sometimes. I don't want to just be one to jump in and update on my own postings or check on words about my own releases but each time I wander around I just end up angry. I would love to see more support and general respect on places like this around the Internet. This really is a precious and amazing tool for community! I worry that in future generations it's just going to get worse. I think what happens is that people want to make waves, and to do so anonymously, so they flame out on forums as the most shocking and abusive material gets the most a notice. By doing this we are creating a shocking and abusive culture. So, here's a subtle call to do otherwise. DFTBA is a great motto, don't forget to be awesome, it's the motto of a group who started a foundation I like the name of. " The foundation to decrease world suck." Let's try and work more toward that direction! With love, S

Hey guys,
Picked up my copy from Ken at the Penguin Lecture and I think Atlas put it best in his quote. Ken is a very prolific performer and really passionate about trimming the fodder from our beloved art...he's frigg'n hilarious too. I'm still working my way through the book, I'm at the close up portion at the moment, but cheese and rice this has great workable material mixed alongside hilarious banter! XX, -Jakob |

Haha nah, I'm always looking for an excuse to gobble down a hamburger instead of my normal slow carb meal plan, I had to use all of my persuasion tactics to convince you I wasn't down for it xD Video review should be out soon, my studio isn't set up at my new place yet, which is irritating, so it's going to be a me chilling in my office without a background review, but a *** good one!

Hey guys,
I'm a little late to the party here, but here is my review that was originally intended to be ten minutes of rambling...turned into fifteen and in it I go over WHY I find this book so great outside the just the tricks. Atlas' quote remains one of the most true on the book, this is really a mini tome on workable and highly commercial mentalism that has made a very prominent living for a friend that is truly working the dream. Incredibly good book.
Very funny to read. The book also contains a drop of pure evil madness. 9 effects in close up section. 7 of them - card tricks. PURE MADNESS But it's still a very beautiful book. Very good purchase. |

Thank you Twisted Madness.
Yeah mentalism with cards - who would have thought that would be such a thing? Is it just me or is it about time now that we all stopped justifying the use of cards in mentalism. Pretty much EVERY working pro, and/or respected mentalist has or does use cards. They're a very effective tool.

Personally I never entertained that idea. Didn't make sense to me when I first heard the argument, makes even less sense to me now with a lot of performance experience behind me. I have never done a show of 30 mins or more without using playing cards, and I probably never will.
Silly argument that you don't tend to hear from working professionals.

Some of it happened to use cards, some of it uses balls, some of it uses envelopes. That's just the way it happens to be. This is probably the most confusing 'review' I've read so far lol.

Yes. Too many card tricks.
If you think that I do not like that in the book there are a lot of effects - no, you are wrong, read my comment again. If you think that I do not like that in the book there are too many CARD effects - yes, you're right, thank you! You read my comment properly. I believe that if a section in the book is called something like "Close Up Mentalism", there should be at least at least 50% of the close up mentalism effects, effects with business cards, watches and something like that. But in the book Bairn 77% card effects in this section. I hope you heard me right this time. In fact I even expressed my opinion as a percentage. If not - read it again. |
