Yes, the Black Panther trailer is certainly impressive. What's ironic is that I never cared for the Panther in the comic books at all. In other words, what I'm driving at is that the film might surpass the comic. That's what already happened with me as far as the Shazam-Captain Marvel. In other words, I never liked the Captain Marvel comic book at all, but I very much enjoyed the Captain Marvel movie-serial starring Tim Tyler. That same irony might happen with the Black Panther as well.

Mantis got panned badly and canceld fairly quickly after going through two major changes in a series saving attempt. I still liked the show. Carl Lumbly did a believable job as the injured man given the means to fight back.
I was still sorry the pilot for Exo-Man never got picked up. Click here to view attached image.

Now that you mention Exo-Man and Mantis, how about the other TV series Manimal? Mind you, this is Not to be confused with the DC superhero Animal-man who could take on just the abilities of animals. The difference with Manimal is that he could actually take on not just abilities but also the actual shapes of the animals.

Manimal lasted an amazing 8 episodes before being canceled. (9 if you count the later team up with Night-man) I thin with better budgeting and effects the show could have been better. What you had was an arguably brilliant concept brought down by poor writing and cheesy special effects. If you see the team up on Night-man (a mere 14 years later) the specail effect of Jonathan changing into a snake was done so much better that you might have actually believed it. btw, Simon McCorkindale (manimal) was a british stage actor who was much better than the show.

I almost never do this sort of thing but thought that this once it would be fun. Going to the Thor Ragnarok opening night fan event.
I'll get what will turn out to be a fairly pricey "collectible coin". Woo hoo! https://www.amctheatres.com/participatin......or-event |

Well, as I feared, the Elongated Man premiered on The Flash. As I thought the effects looked kind of cartoony and cheap. There just is no live action way, that I know of to make a human look stretched out and still human.
Tomorrow--- Thor Waiting for Justice League to get back on topic... Can DC catch up with Marvel.

Thor: Opening Night!
No spoilers here, promise. A very enjoyable movie. Yes, I had some issues, but I still enjoyed it. I will discuss the issues at another time after more people have seen it.

Not only do we have "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Justice League" in theatres this month, we also have a 4-way crossover of the DCTV shows (Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow) coming up on November 27th and 28th - "Crisis on Earth-X".

Contrary to Cliff's disappointment at Ralph Dibny's debut, I, on the other hand, enjoyed immensely the debut of the Elongated Man. Elasticity fx not cartoonish at all but quite realistic. Especially enjoyable was the scene where Ralph sneezes, which results in his face getting "splattered." To see his face hanging down to his chest with his nose dangling might seem gross but it's the very shock value which entertains. The ingenuity of the superpower is that even such grossness can be made to look awesome and/or comical. The comicality of the splattered face is further enhanced by the reaction of the lady in the laboratory.
Appropriately adding to the effects is the actor Hartley Sawyer. The finely chiseled angularity of his face especially in side profile is accurately remindful of the way artist Carmine Infantino used to depict Dibny in the comics. Appropriately comical too is the scene where Dibny reacts to being described as silly putty. "Silly Putty!" he whimpers in a facial expression that looks like a cross between a Shirley Temple pout and a Stan Laurel whimper. |

Just to clarify...
I like the Elongated Man. I remember the first time he teamed with the Justice League. (not as a member) It was him, zatanna (also not a member) and several Justice Leaguers against one of Zatanna's foes (Alura?) Loved the humorous scene of the atom running up Elongated Man's arm to attack a very tell giant. Atom begs him to "Stop stretching" as he was losing ground with each step he took. On Flash, I thought that both the writers and Hartley did a fine job of capturing him as a jaded but smart aleck detective. This was done so well I was willing to overlook the cartoony aspect, and I think that can somewhat be covered by giving E.M. a stretching costume.

Wasn't Elongated Man always kind of cartoony even in the comic books? And was his character ever portrayed as the jaded but smart aleck detective? It's been a long time since I read a comic with him in it but even briefly looking on the internet, it seems like they completely changed his character.

I saw Ragnarok on Sunday.
I enjoyed it, but I was left a bit disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it seems that they tried too hard to insert humor into it. I also didn't like the handling of the Hulk for the most part. I did like the role that Loki played. Seeing him fight for Asgard was cool. Oh well, onto JLA.

Trying to make Thor funny was an odd choice for me. Also a little whiney.
I certainly enjoyed the movie.

Kind of how I felt also Danny. While enjoyable and funny, it was also a bit disappointing as it seemed to change Thor's character so much. Not that I'm a strong purist, I just found that it was more of a comic (and cosmic) Superhero road trip that felt a little out of place is the Universe that Marvel has created. I wouldn't want all the Marvel movies to follow this style. (Not that I think they will. Black Panther looks much closer to the tone of "The Winter Soldier" than "Thor: Ragnarok", which I think is a good thing.)
