Much as I also found magicmarkworldwide2's comment funny, now everyone's jumping on another bandwagon. In defence of him - as there are always two sides to everything - if y'all could simply think back to a time before you knew who Bob Cassidy was, then the shock you're all feeling might dissipate somewhat.

I can see both sides of the argument tbh.
I for one purchased the second I saw the video. Now that I have, I like that video has been changed! Obviously, that is having ones cake and eating it too - but it WOULD be nice if somehow all products worked like that! A pipe dream I know, but it would help me make so many better informed purchases if I could always get such clarity in these increasingly ridiculous ads that keep being produced. |

Its partly to do with if you have been brought up with internet access...where anything and everything is free (pretty much) -it breeds the idea that you should be able to show anything and everything if you demand it...
and the truth is, you can't and you shouldn't...or rather, just because you can do something - doesn't mean that you should... technologically speaking - its easy, a simple password to watch a full vid, or when you join up to a site, you answer a couple of magic/mentalism questions and you can see the vid... i get that those who just want something fun to show their mates - it doesn't matter...they are just consumers...buy it, eat it, move on to the next thing...but there's some (And I'm not talking top level pros either) who want to perform and do, and have regular gigs and so on...who genuinely have experience in how people behave and act, who would buy something as an investment, that they will use in those gigs - and audiences are smarter than some realise...i've even seen people during a derren brown show literally google "how does derren do..." - just as some people love the mystery and get caught up in it, you also get a certain percentage who see it as a challenge, and another percentage who want to know how things are done...

I purchased this only because I do have a few gigs coming up and I am not satisfied with my previous imp devices.
I've never been comfortable with them, but I am very comfortable with my SAW. This to me seemed like a merging of the two, and I'm not sure I would have gotten that impression (pun intended) without seeing the first version of the video. Not everyone from the younger generation has bad intentions - yes we expect instant gratification but we are also working hard to provide that gratifying experience to our clients and paying customers as best we can. Purchasing the right tools helps us do that. I for one would love the password system mentioned above. |

Oh.... my.... dayz.... i. screwed. up. Sorry folks.
MasterMindReader... you are Bob Cassidy. THE Bob Cassidy?? You really are. I honestly, never, never knew. This is so embarrassing, you are like, my absolute idol in the world of mentalism... my hero, the reason I started using envelopes, and bits of paper in my shows, as crazy as that sounds! I genuinely, never read your signature, I'm so blind at times, I totally never connected the dots, shame on me. Now I see that you are the REAL Bob Cassidy, I feel like an absolute fool....... Obviously, I now totally understand, that I am totally in the wrong, and I take back EVERYTHING I SAID. EVERY SINGLE THING. The original trailer was complete exposure and should never have been put up by the creators. In fact, out of shame, I am cancelling my order with ellusionist. They don't deserve my money. All I can do is apologise to everyone on this board for my comments, contradicting the great Bob Cassidy was never ever ever my intention obviously, and, I feel so embarrassed about the entire thing. Now I know how Craig Petty felt with Red..... but, I'm even more foolish. Please, just see the funny side to my sheer naivity and blindess... a total oversight on my behalf. The penny has dropped, I totally understand why my misguided comments have been so ridiculed. I hope we can all move on, and start talking about the product again. All I can say is sorry for causing such a massive stir and offending so many mentalists. Peace out.

Interesting discussion, very valuable opinion from Bob as usual.
But I think an interesting data point would make the discussion even more interesting: when an item like this is put out for sale, what would you say the percentage of sale can be distributed between pro (using the item specifically in performance) vs. hobbyist. Because IMHO (of course) if 90% of the sale is coming from selling to pro would make certain opinions weigh much more than say if 90% of the sales comes from hobbyist. Quote:

Paperinick, when I stated that 90% of magic for sale would probably remain on the shelf if we knew the secret, I was just stating a fact. Whether that is a good, neutral, or bad thing, I can't say. What is your opinion?

Paperinick-
I don't see what difference it would make. If pros are purchasing and using a particular prop/gimmick in their shows, what difference does it make how many hobbyists buy it? (Am referring to those who just buy and never really perform.) With most things in magic and mentalism, the bulk of sales are made to hobbyists simply because they are much more likely to buy new things than professionals who have well established acts. |

Bob, from a purely economical perspective: yes it does make sense. You want to appeal to the large majority of the customers. As you say hobbyists are more likely to buy, so again from a pure economical perspective (offer and demand) it makes sense.
Then there is the big topic of exposure. I have been wrapping my head around a bit and I came to this conclusion: to qualify for exposure two things need to happen: 1) the intent to expose, i.e. to 'profit' from showing how something is done; that is why Penn & Teller don't expose 2) the proper medium; if I send my 'exposure' to a newsletter with 3 subscribers is not exposure, not even if I have the intent. IMHO is exposure stuff like the masked magician, on prime (or almost) on TV. Everything else hardly meets the bar. I emphasize the premise: IMHO. Last but not least, there is the damage of exposure. I witnessed a friend showing a TT trick to an audience who just was exposed to TT workings: their impression was that some people do tricks (with TT) other perform miracles that defy explanation. Heck people like you can start a religion and be followed even by the people who just watched one of your lectures. My 2 cents

Would anyone have had a problem with the original video had it been protected in such a way that only those in the know could see it? Password or suchlike? I seem to remember the Fourseen wallet having just as much demonstration of the capabilities of the wallet.

If its protected sensibly like I suggested here and elsewhere, then great...show what you need to...if its a well phrased magic question, then even nosey regular folk will fins it hard to find the answer...

We've had some people asking about the type of paper that is used for the BlackMail effect which is also included as part of the Informant wallet. Bobby Motta stopped by our Facebook page this morning and shared this..
"Thanks Jake!! John, if you plan on using the wallet, you can use regular paper 20 or 24lb...same stuff you find in photocopy machines. I always use regular card stock. The paper is cut a bit larger than the envelope because I always like to be able to pull it out without having to reach in the envelop...less struggle but you may want to cut it to size if you prefer. Or you can simply fold the top flap and give it an extra crease over the card. I hope that helps. bm" |
