I have a prop on a table on stage that I cover with a 18" silk. It does nothing more that keep my prop covered until I'm ready to bring it into play. Normally, I just pull off the silk, semi roll/ball it up and drop it into my large case. However, I've been thinking it might be nice that after I remove it from the prop, be able to vanish it instantly. I'm not interested in a transposition to another item IE wand or cane. Just a instant vanish of the silk. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Years ago I had a 24 inch silk gimmicked up with elastic going down the center tube of the table. A euricka table base if I remember correctly.
A small step on a pedal in the back pulled the silk instantly through a hole in the table top down the tube. It wouldn't be much to rig up if that would help.

Jef, Thanks for the suggestion. However, I'm using Spider tables.

It's just as magical (and also funnier) to toss the silk into the air and have it fly up and off the stage. This can be accomplished with an assistant, or solo by using the method Spellbinder reveals in his "Poltergeist" effect in The Wizards' Journal #6.

Build a tray with the same basic guts inside that Jef was speaking of in a table. Okito used this idea to make a silk vanish from inside a clear glass decanter, except he used a strong spring reel.
You can also build a spring roller blind inside a tray that is attached to a short line that goes to one corner of the silk. Same results with the advantage of a self-winding take-up spool.

Lately I have been experimenting with neodymiumn magnet ends on puts and pulls. If you wanted to use a sleeve pull on the silk, this would be the way to attach it. Get your magnets now before they are all banned by nanny police.
