In searching for a unique looking close-up pad I found a vendor/artist on Etsy who is willing to make custom close-up pads for magicians.
She sent me the attached examples and wanted to know if the magic community would have an interest in customized close-up pads with your name on them. These are in addition to the ones on her website. Click here to view attached image.

I like some of the ones in the 1st set. What is the material she is using?

The top is durable commercial grade polyester fabric that kind of looks like felt but it glistens in sunlight & cleans easily with soap & water. The printing process utilizes state of the art dye-print technology. They have a non-slip rubber backing, and are easily rolled up so you can take them along with you wherever you go. They're outdoor safe so you can even use them to sit on if you're in such a situation. I CAN CUSTOMIZE THESE MATTS WITH YOUR NAME OR SPECIAL MESSAGE OR VERSE OR EVEN A PICTURE!" This is her Etsy page https://www.etsy.com/shop/tarotbyseven?ref=pr_shop_more Her webpage has more choices and prices (but is very slow to open on an iPad). Look under "Reading Mats" http://www.tarotbyseven.com/ I've purchased from her before and found her to be very responsive to special requests. Hope to is a help to others looking for a unique close-up pad.

She also had this to say about the mats.
"The mats are casino quality so they're rubber backed & soft on top - great for laying cards on." I'm in the process of placing my own order as we speak.

Those look cool. I have been extremely happy with Pattrick's Mats (http://www.pattricksmagic.com/index.php/world-famous-mats/) as I have ordered several for different sized tables. This photo (sorry for the basement view) are two separate tables that I use. The top is a Collector's Workshop Criterion table which has a difficult shape to fit and the bottom is a custom folding oak table.

FYI, please send your questions directly to the vendor and not myself. Thanks.

Oh my - check out this Ouiji Spirit Board mat from the same site. It's beautiful. Based on a painting by the store owner:

I think they look pretty cool but I don't know, I guess for actual performances I may still prefer the solid colored mats as a better "stage" to showcase the magic.
Nice to know they exist though and I always love having more options! |

The first group looks pretty nice, but the second group just looks WAY too busy for me. I'm also a huge fan of Pattrick's pads. I've used ones by Dean, Dan and Dave and others and I think his are offer the best bang for the buck.

The muted color scheme takes some of the edge off of its unabashed garrishness, but it's still eye-catching and unique. And if you're going for a "special" pad, why not do it up right and get something guaranteed to leave an impression - maybe even induce nightmares in the young ones?

I advised her that those would be too distracting for most performers. Which led to the second set of sample designs, the six on the left. What do you think, A01, A02 or A03 for a streampunk theme? B04 for the bizarrist and B06 for the young guys with attitude? A04 and A06 have a nice simple and classical look to for those that want to keep it simple. Here's a thought for the magicians that have cool artwork of themselves. Put it on a mat along with your name. Another way to advertise yourself. Good idea?
