I have always liked this effect but I have not liked the Chinese face with ponytail motif for a variety of reasons. Last year, I had asked Ron Reid to refinish the canisters first. And then this year, I asked him to redo the checkers from red and yellow to silver and gold to go along with a story I developed for this effect. I just received the checkers. I am so happy with Ron's work on these. I wanted to post a picture of his work. Unfortunately, this picture taken with an iPhone will have to suffice for now even though it does not do his work justice. I will take a better picture on the weekend.
Thanks so much, Ron. Your work is superb!!!! BEFORE AFTER I found some better pictures Ron had sent me before shipping these back to me:

Absolutely gorgeous! I'm new around here...does Mr. Reid have a website I could visit? Congratulations (and envy) to Jimmy! (I know, I know, one of the seven deadly sins...)

Thanks for all the nice words, everyone. Jimmy was very patient with me. I do this on weekends and during the summer, fitting it in - my full time job is that of a fifth grade elementary school teacher.
I need to change my avatar too. That black and white photo is from 1987! Ron |

My avatar is from 1947! LOL I guess that is the only advantage of looking just like your Dad...

Simply outstanding. I really don't think there is anyone out there doing better finish work than this. And I've said it before, photos don't do his work justice. One has to feel and touch it to appreciate the love Ron puts into his craft.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Does Ron have contact information? Can anyone commission him to do this kind of work? Thanks

Hi Jimmy,
Yes, that is beautiful work. I have a set (original colours) decorating my shelf for a few years. Do you perform with these? How do you prevent them from getting scratched? Richard |

Yep... That's how that trick should have looked from the get go.
