Slight correction. The current minimum hourly wage in Australia is 16.87 AUD. This converts (today) to 14.70 USD.
Even with this correction the Australian minimum wage is significantly higher than the American minimum of 7.25 USD. (IN case anyone cares, in my province in Canada, the current minimum is 10.20 CAD, or 9.03 USD.)

Magnus, I knew that but that would mean the big mac is even cheaper than in the US.

Not disputing the sentiment, just correcting the data. Australian minimum wage is slightly more than double the USA minimum wage, which is pretty significant. Mcdonalds.com.au and mcdonalds.com don't give prices, so it's hard to tell if the second half of the claim holds up.
Oddly, there is a Big Mac Index. No idea if its reliable, but it gives 2014 prices in USD, with an American Big Mac costing $4.80 and the Australian coming in at $4.81. (Canadians have to pay %5.25 for the same stomach ache.) Interesting.

Ok lets just make the minimum wage a million dollars a year. Problems all solved. Sounds cool.

With those wages in Canada and Australia do they also include any sort of benefits or retirement such as Social Security? Just asking because I really don't know? Also is the tax rate there higher or lower than in the U.S. for that salary? Again asking because I do not know? While the cost of the burgers seems less how is the cost of living compared to the U.S.? Again just asking because I don't know.
However I do know they don't have an immigration problem. Just saying.

In Canada, your wage is independent of health care, social insurance, unemployment insurance, etc. The income tax rate is slightly higher. I think Balducci has posted links to some analysis that suggests that the overall tax rates are comparable between Canada and the USA (but most Canadians think we pay more tax.) As for immigration, both Australia and Canada are popular immigration destinations, and have controls in place to regulate it. The situation is rather different from the USA in that neither Canada nor Australia share a border with a relatively poor nation. We're a little harder to get to.
