The idea here is not as negative as it might seem at first glance.

Please state what in your opinion was the worst trick you purchased or saw this year and why. Hopefully it will be informative for the rest of us. Let's try to avoid ad hominem attacks on the creators and focus instead on why the trick is best avoided.

Depends how people treat it. The aim is not character assassination but rather critical appraisal of poor products.

Well, it seems nobody wants to participate anyway. Perhaps that is a good thing.

Purely from observation, items like 'Ash & Ember' and 'Hidden Hand' seem to have left many people somewhat underwhelmed. Personally I move years behind the times, only occasionally taking a punt on a new release.

Of the current crop, 'Sizzle', by John Bannon, left me reeling, but for all the wrong reasons. He's a wonderful creator, but I fail to see any merit in that latest offering. In fact, it reminded me what a great routine 'Dazzle' is, so I ordered some new cards from Vanishing Inc.; every cloud has a silver lining, as they say.

I believe "Killer Red Caps" has been awarded permanent custody of that title.

Are you setting fire to the idea just because it isn't your own? What a mean thing to do.

A latecomer to the 2014 list as I believe this is a recent release. However, if this doesn't qualify for at least being in the 'Top 3' then heaven knows what does!

Yep, it's 'Swirl' - and each mis-printed (you can't call it 'gimmicked') card is only costing you a pound a pop.

There seems to be a common theme in magic these days. Whenever a card is signed by the obligatory Sharpie, it generally results in a piece of complete and utter cr@p!

So, take a bow 'Swirl' for my nomination for this year. Smile

Killer Red Caps came up a lot a few years ago when they posted the worst trick of the year thread and I had to agree.

It says a great deal for Classic Magic when props such as The Linking Rings, Egg Bag, Torn & Restored Newspaper, Cups & Balls, Cut & Restored Rope, etc. would not dare make this list, HAD they been released in 2014.

I rest my case.

Cards.

Is that 'cards' generally, or card tricks whereby the 'freely chosen card' apparently HAS to be signed with a Sharpie (these normally involving a gaffed card that has to be put back onto the top of the pack, then followed up with a pretty naff double lift......TWICE.....before you hand it back out)?

Either way, you get my vote. Smile

The trick called swirl uses a design that I knew I have seen before in time. I remembered it now and checked and it is the same onefrom chris dugdales Drunken Deck 2 with jbtv magic from a few years ago.
