I like the clip. But would this work as an adult close up routine, as he put his hand behind the lady before placing the string in her hand.

Ok... I am back. That was a admittedly crude demo vid. But like I said it is the switch that sells it. I show the hands as in the vid. Demo to the speccy. Put the string between the palms. like I did. And ouila! I use it more for bill switches and billets now. Same switch and there ya go.

I will make a couple of statements regarding String Theory.
First, I'm a lot older than I appear. It was back in 1988, when Ronald Reagan was still president that I started applying UF Grant's method to this. The method was already old and often ignored, even back then. I state clearly that this is a lateral approach. It doesn't surprise me that anyone else may have had similar thoughts, so kudos to you. The method has served me very well over the last 26 years. Since I met Eric Jones, some 10 years ago, he's been at me to share this. I finally relented. If you're focused on the switch, then you might be missing the point. To paraphrase a line from 'The Matrix' - There is no switch. It's the connection with the audience that lifts this above being a trick where you cut up and then put something back together. To the people you perform this for, what you leave them with is pure magic. Only magicians, being familiar with the old method, worry about discovery. The rest of the world sees only magic. |

I don't have any connections with any of these magicians so it's going to be from an unbiased standpoint, hooray.
I have come across many presentational ideas with this routine, none that have really inspired me to go out and perform them. This one however caught my eye due to it's finish with you in the "applause cue", not to mention the most obvious detail of restoring that thread in a visual and magical manner. I have perused this thread, pun, where a lot of people are turned off at the secret to where there is an out of view moment, I do have to agree if you find that moment not worth the end result, this may still be for you, he does cover an alternative method which works just as well and uses a cheap gimmick, no it doesn't go on your thumb. The prep work doesn't take too long but do need a couple clothes pins to assist with the setup. I went to Bed Bath & Beyond to get a small sack of them for $4, turned around at the dollar store and there they were. After the restoration there needs to be work on the thread to relax the work done, you can see this done in the demo, easy as pie. The instructional is very thorough and Vince is very easy to listen to and you can play a fun drinking game, every time you hear "rabbit ears", go for it! A well executed DVD with added instructional for a cheap cheap storage device you can make in a seconds for pennies that can hold 30 performances. I only wish to know where you can get refills for the thread, I'm sure a trip to Joanne's or Michael's I can figure it out. All in all, I'm pretty inspired to setup a bunch of them as I can and practice and perform, I dig it. I will post more if there are any questions, I'm out on the town with the lady so I should stop typing away on my phone. |

I got to thinking about this effect that I don't normally do. I think I have come up with a good method to get into the effect, a good switch, and a good way to end clean. I also have a different patter that I've developed that is more about three phases of life, past, present, and future. I would say that just watching this very nice version of gypsy thread was very inspirational.
I can't comment on any method Vince might be using because I don't know exactly what he is doing, but if anyone is interested in my method, I'll give it out to the first five people who are really interested in this plot and who have over 50 posts who PM me. KJ |

BTW, one more criteria: You have to be able to either describe or name the method used that is old as the hills.

I've got to say that the WPR comments are a bit overstated in their review; obviously they don't like this routine. I have no connection with anyone connected with this release but I will try to offer my personal opinion as I have watched this DVD from start to finish. I found some interesting ideas in both the set up and the routine but this won't be for everyone. The restore is visual and legitimately occurs directly in the spectator’s hands. The switch seems easy, faster and more natural than described or even seen in the video but requires some angle issues if performing strolling. The setup is novel but does require more time than many might want to invest but not overly difficult; I believe Vince noted it takes him on average about 10 minutes to prepare. There is no reset as each performance consumes one prepared string. Vince does offer an easy solution for carrying a number of these to perform in a strolling environment. This is different than most other gypsy thread routines but if this fits your performance style, it is worth taking a look at. Just my opinion.

If you like what you see in the trailer, you'll probably like what you get as it shows the effect. (And naturally, if you don't like what you see, you probably won't like what you get. To each his own!)

When you get it, if you aren't happy with any of the methodology, send me a PM and I'll send you my take on a great method. I haven't ordered this, but I think I will, even though I have already worked out a method and presentation, only because I was inspired by watching the trailer and I'm confident there would be some good tips. I think the routine was just GREAT! KJ |

I have to agree with the WPR on this one. I can't see a single advantage over gypsy. Long set up time, need for scissors, taking pieces significantly out of frame, and a weak restoration that leaves a restored string that may tip the method. All major steps backwards from gypsy. I use floss and reset on the fly. Can't beat it.
