I will re-read the fitting section and give that a try. Thanks for the reply. I think using bandages will help too. Anyway, I think it's an amazing device.

There is much debate on blindfolds much like that of ESP Cards, using playing cards or other props in mentalism. In my very humble opinion I feel that once something has a justified reason to exist on the stage it becomes excepted. Also with any type of blindfold routine you should include at least one or two routines that couldn't be explained even if you could see.
I absolutely love Osterlinds Blindfold and have used it alone and with additional tape and as suggested large plasters (band aids). I have done a Blindfold drive for the launch of the new Porsche along with other demonstrations. When I introduce the blindfold I mention that it is a single piece of steel, no thin material, moving parts etc etc. I ALWAYS get someone else to try it on and then write the word NO on a pad and ask them if they can see the word they say no which gets a laugh, I then really hold numerous objects in front of them. I should also mention that when I put it on them I tighten it a little so I am assured they can see nothing, then when I put it on I add tape which totally eliminates any possibility of seeing. The blindfold for me is an unusual thing to have but I do mention that I used to use the sleeping eye covers that you get on planes but some skeptical audiences think that the material is thin and possibly see through so here is something that even superman would have trouble with. In regards to ESP cards I use them all the time as most. When I initially ask them if they know what ESP cards are they often say No but once I show them the simple designs and relay a little history of their existence every one always responds "oh those, yes I know what they are." job done... I also use playing cards as I couldn't aggree more with Mr Osterlind, magicians think tricks, the public think gambling. A perfect example of this is when ever I am waiting for the girlfriend to finish in ANOTHER clothing shop I am normally outside fiddling with a deck of cards, going through my stack etc. People don't ask me if I am a magician but normally say "are you a gambling man or a croupier." I really don't mind if people think I do tricks as in the UK (we are a cynical bunch) you could do the best spoon bend ever or drawing duplication and some will still say very clever but it's a trick and lets face it if you really could do those things for real why on earth would you be at a company christmas dinner, you'd have your own church somewhere. Also if you use the whole physcology approach why would you be doing your local restaurant and not advising Microsoft and who are good potential applicants for the chairman position. I love Andy Nymans line of leaving them to decide, it's tongue in cheek but also leaves the doorway open. I have flat out told people I do not use any sixth sense but they still walk away saying that's not trick how could it be? We must remember that we are entertainers first and foremost. Sorry about the ramble but just my opinions... Great Blindfold Mr Osterlind..
It's not goodbye, just see you later...

I've just ordered the blindfold, I just coultn't wate any longer. I think we should all listen to Richard when he say's start with the effect first, I have several effects I use blind folds for but up to now my blindfolds have not been fully examinable, I thing it would be a wonderful idea to be able to combine two or 3 blind folds. Though the Mr Osterlinds wonderful Blindfold would be perfect for a blindfold drive, in Ireland where I live Every onw would know instantly there was somthing up with the blindfold,Si I would prefere to use it as a mind reading routeen or psycometry, and the wonderful look of the blindfold is worth a few minutes talk and jokes.

Anyone have any trouble traveling with the Osterlind Blindfold as a carry-on?
I packed in my carry-on, figuring with no sharp edges and no points, it would pass muster. It still gave the airport security pause, though, and I had to explain what it was before they OK'ed it. I'd hate to have a $75 prop confiscated on the whim of some bored or ill-tempered screener. In fact, when I finish my gig, I'm mailing the thing back to myself (having no luggage to stash it in). Can't be too safe with such a mission-critical item. By the way, I'm finding it works well close-up for Mr. Osterlind's PCT (how could I ever peek when my eyes are covered before I even touch the slip?). I've also used it for Acidus Novus (you can take a nice loooong look, thanks to the blindfold) and Richard Busch's various peeks. The fact that it's so easily donned & doffed, and that it's fully examinable, makes it the first blindfold I've ever wanted to use close-up. For that reason, I'm even considering it for my Q&A (based on Docc's Cinderella Act, using Busch's index-card tear and incorporating PSW for Riggs' conclusion). It's the first blindfold I'd feel comfortable raising and lowering repeatedly without having to readjust it each time. Besides, I like looking like a spaceman. |

That's funny, Kennedy!
I recall flying from Canada to L.A. to perform at a private party in Hollywood in Nov. 2001. In my walk-on, which has my whole show, was a single-hole paper punch. And can you believe it? Nope-not allowed! I returned with a "what am I gonna do with it? PUNCH somebody out!" Well, at least I thought it was funny! Security on the other hand, didn't. So in the garbage went the punch, oh well. Then, when I landed at LAX, they had full-on Marines walking around with assault rifles. I think that conversation started with: "Is that thing real?"-LOL Anyways, it turned into something about dangerous "Hockey Stick Gangs and their Drive-by Hockey stickings." I had this guy almost in tears from laughter by the time I was finished with him. He couldn't believe that we don't have guns in Canada. He said "well what do you do if somebody breaks into your house in the middle of the night? I mean, what do you do?" I replied "we hope they don't trip over the coffe table in the dark and break their leg and sue us!" LOL. Oooops. Just noticed I've been rambling. Cheers, J.Warrens |

OK, have the blindfold, fits beautifully after some tweaking, book it came with was a wonderful read (especially liked ideas on combining with some of Ted Lesley's material)...and now my curiousity is peaked....besides the "standards of mentalism" (e.g., Corinda ) what other books do folks recommend for routining ideas? History of how blindfolds have been used? (e.g., on Kuda Bux....)
Thanks! |

This is the funniest thing. I ordered the blindfold a few weeks ago and was beginning to wonder why it was taking a little longer to get here then it should, I got a letter from customs telling me it was being held for me to authorize it so that vat and duty could be paid on it. Nothing has ever been stopped on me before, I'm assuming the metal set their detectors off. At least it will still be getting here.
Update: I received the blindfold last week and I have to say, it is amazing, every thing that it says and more. The manual is worth so much also. This was worth every penny.
