I made my own egg bag (just to see if I could) from diagrams in Tarbell... I don't remember what type of bag it is. But I downloaded the videos from Jeff Hobson a couple years ago and they are very good! And free.

It was just the routine I was looking for. I don't like the sucker trick of putting the bag under the arm pit. Brookes comedy bits worked well for me and fit in nicely. I have since added a few more bits of comedy into it. The Greater Magic DVD is very good. Johnny Thomson is one of the contributors. |

There are a lot of great egg bag routines: John Carney's, if you can find his performance only video (no performance rights granted), is really fantastic if you want to put yours up against a pro's to see how to put one together. It's on his "up close and far away video (yes, video)". Hobson's is great. I cannot imagine anyone doing HIS routine. That's a good thing, actually, as it will get you to come up with something original. Mullica's is inspiring. Denny Haney's is wonderful. I've never seen Eric DeCamp's routine but it's supposed to be great. Good ideas from Trevor Lewis, Gazzo and also Danny Tong. I love the egg bag. It's a bold trick. Just the thought of "only you and a bag on stage" probably scares away most beginners and amateurs.

Is he a friend of yours? This is the third time you've mentioned it on this thread alone.
I would say that routine is descent, but not great. I'd want to do something different when performing for large groups.

I saw Jeff do his Egg Bag routine when he was in Detroit performing in the show "Illusionist" last week. He presents it in a fascinating and comedy manner.

Any of these will work for both audiences. http://magicbypauline.com/index.php?id_c......category Why do I recommend Danny Tong's website, because the workman ship is superior, meaning you get value for your money. They will last with proper care, such as storing the them in a plastic bag, with a cardboard insert in the bag to keep it looking great. |

Senor MARDO taught me HIS in '51, and, I bought one of Harold Sterlig's bags, the next day! Jay Marshall and I had a "philosophy" about putting a new trick in one's act: 1. Learn how it's DONE. 2. Learn how to DO it. 3. Figure out how to DO it so that it ENTERTAINS AN AUDIENCE! (THAT, is the challenge!) When I bought the "Sterling/Mardo", I knew how it was DONE. Charlie Mardo had explained fully how to DO it It took me a "day or two"!!! to get a handle on #3!!! I finally did! Since most of my programs were for school assembly audiences, my routine is designed to play to younger audiences, BUT, I've used it often for college and adult groups, and, it plays well. I wrote it up in detail in my book. I use the OLD "sucker" under the arm bit, but, I soften the suckering with a line that Karrell Fox gave me. I don't even have a "final load", but, the audiences like it! I especially like your final line above!

Although it has been written in several books, I never see anyone use the Devil's Hank or Go Go Vanish Hank. I adds a good vanish and appearance to any routine, and it is an additional magic effect, and another surprise. If you are into gags and crashing eggs on the floor (lay down some newspaper or plastic first), the Abbott's Diablo Hank is a good choice.

The late Donald Lawton used Laurie Ireland's Egg Bag routine (with a minor modification) and the finish involved a devil hank to vanish "the" egg. The egg reappeared, of course, in the egg bag. A VHS tape was made of a testimonial in his honor at the Castle, and, it included Don doing his act.

I think I know what constitutes a "Malini" bag. What makes a "Martin" bag since someone else suggested HIS bag and routine. Is there a thread on this subject on the board somewhere? Further, how do we get a certain type of bag? Most of the dealer listings I've seen simply mention "Egg Bag" with no specification as to the TYPE of bag offered.

Ed...Contact Denny Haney (Denny & Lee's Magic) You can Google the address.
The late John Novak wrote a "compendium" on egg bags. He described every known (and unknown!) egg bag. I loaned mine out, and it hasn't found its way home yet. Denny may have one. He has a tremendous stock of used books. My preference is the Sterling/Mardo bag. (Mainly 'cuz I learned the egg bag in 1951, direct from Charlie Mardo!) O
