Just found out about this show, the magic seems pretty good compared to other certain magic shows. Have you seen it? What are your thoughts on the show?

I watched 75% of the show this morning. While I like Magick, Johnny, and Loki as magicians, and I like their magic, I was only luke warm about the show. The main problem was that the scripting was just TERrible. It was a huge NYC tourist commercial. I dunno, maybe Joe Public will find that exciting, it put me to sleep. Some of the fliming was really not great and sort of borderline exposure of the closeup effects. Maybe I'm just too picky and I know too much. But the premise of walking around Manhattan until we come up with a trick worthy of Houdini was a bit of a bore. And Magick is really the only of the three that has a personality large enough for TV, but sometimes he strikes me as a bit of an overexcited adolescent.
I'm always thrilled when magic gets a shot at TV and gets some exposure on the networks. I wish this special had better writers and producers attached to the project. I think my favorite moment was when Loki charmed the young woman at the bar with the French Kiss bar trick. It was the only 'honest' moment in the show. And the magic was good. You could see that Loki was affected as much as the woman. I'll probably finish watching the rest of it tonight. |

Magick is a very talented magician , I learned a lot from him over the years he runs the shop at Fantasma magic in N.Y. city . The show would be great if they just featured his magic like a david blaine Special .
Just my two cents here, Jeffrey |

Sorry, this was terrible. Was hoping it would be fun and original like Wizard Wars but no such luck. People complain about Dynamo but he's amazingly charming compared to these three guys. Maybe in person they're okay magicians, but they have literally zero charisma on TV. Loki's version of French Kiss was flat out AWFUL. It just goes to show how good Wayne Houchin is. The credit card hole punch looked so fake even the bargirls looked nonplussed. From there on it was just magic tricks we can all buy and no imagination to make them their own at all.
Always glad to see magic on TV. Not hating on them, good for them for making something for themselves. I'm sure they worked hard and earned the opportunity, but this is off my season pass after one episode. |

That "climactic" car crush was so ridiculous it was embarrassing. They didn't even actually crush the trunk, just barely dented the top of the trunk. He wouldn't havbeen hurt even if he was still in the car. Wtf? P&T would have flattened the entire freaking car and had blood and body parts spilling out of the trunk before the reveal. I can't believe how awful this show was. I'm actually kind of ****ed I wasted an hour.

I was happy that a new episode of Wizard Wars was also on so the whole evening of TV magic was not a complete bust. Was this (Close Up Kings) a one and done special or is it going to be a (short lived) series? This episode was "meh" at best, I hope it gets better if they go on. No doubt they are great magicians in "real life" but the TV stuff wasn't impressive.

I believe that it is a series with a different location each episode. I've seen lots of great points made, thanks for the input guys!

I don't see this show making it past a few shows. Thwe magic was good. The close up magic I should say. The car crush was really bad. It lacks performance by the guys. Just plane. I don't want to say acting because there not acting but it lacks alot. Its to bad I was really wanting this to be good.

This show started airing earlier in Canada and the first episode aired for us was set in Mobile where the premise was they were trying to infiltrate a secret society. The second episode was in Miami. I like that it is all practical workers close up magic with them approaching strangers (they also show Loki getting 'rejected' in the Miami episode). Seems each episode ends with a bigger illusion. Mobile was a levitation and Miami was a photo at an art show coming to life. The 'story' they use in each episode to try to tie it together is what I think is the biggest thing that makes it feel off because they end up having to act a bit and they aren't actors

It seems like the episodes are numbered differently depending on where / when they are showing them.
A brief search on "syfy Close-Up Kings" has the New York episode labeled as episode 1, episode 4, and episode 7. I haven't watched it. When I first heard the title, thought it might be good since I thought that close-up could be a nice contrast to all the camera tricks / stooges being shown. But after a couple of minutes looking into it, wasn't anywhere near as interested. And when I saw this as one of their promo pictures with the caption, "Feeling excited! One more day folks!", that more or less sealed the deal on what to expect (nothing good) : Click here to view attached image. |

After watching last weeks show and currently this weeks show, a repeat of the french kiss, so far not impressed, many marketed effects being used. Will take Wizard Wars anytime!

I started to watch the second episode, but believe it or not, got too bored to finish it. Think I will take a pass on the series. Sorry to say.

Not as good as some magic shows on TV, but much better than others. You know which ones I mean. The key is to watch it OnDemand so you can fast forward through a lot of it.

Watched the second episode tonight, because I love seeing magic and I'm a glutton for punishment. It was as bad as the first episode. French Kiss again, but done even more poorly. If you get a TV show, shouldn't you be able to do something more than stock tricks from Penguin? Shouldn't you have a personality that lights up the screen? Easily the worst magic show I've ever seen. Thank god for Wizard Wars, which is the polar opposite.

Forced my way thru the third (at least French Kiss is not on this one). Really sick of seeing the B S camera trick magic. I thought this was "Close-Up" Kings

Card to Spent Shotgun Shell...yeah that's close-up magic!? I really don't care for this one OR Troy.
(But that's just me.) Cheers!
