I have been lucky to have seen Roberts progress from an idea to a full routine with his close up Q&A, and wanted to share some thoughts on it here.
From the Introduction:What if you could conduct a Q&A routine in a dinner table setting, one in which a table patron writes down a secret pertinent question about her life circumstances…and then other members of the table besides yourself were able to provide an accurate reading based on that secret question? We all read advertising copy that stretches this truth, but in this case what the intro says is what you get. The routine is a casual conversational peice, best suited for around a dinner table or the like. After bringing the conversation to intution, psychic abilities, or whatever you like you propose an expiriment. One person decides upon some question they'd like the answer to, and you go around the table with each person giving their impressions of the question (sight unseen) before returning to the performer who not only is able to give a detailed answer, but to answer the question specifically rather than generally. There is very little set up needed, and you will most likely have what is needed on you most of the time. The mechanics are very simple as well, allowing you to focus on the presentation. I had the chance to perform this twice on sunday, and both times it went over a treat. The strength I think is not in the kicker ending (which will play big), but in the rapport created at the table with everyone taking part in the process. I have been looking for a close-up Q&A for some time, and this fits the bill perfectly for me. I'm not sure when Robert plans on releasing this to the community at large, but if you're interested in a casual close-up Q&A routine I think this deserves to be on your radar. |

Thanks, Charles. I have several people helping me test this, and the response from those who have actually tried it have exceeded my expectations. Thank you for trying it out for me. I got an email from a tester the other day that he performed this for a table of 10 people, which I thought was a tad ambitious...the only problem was, everyone liked it so much that they all wanted to write questions.
This started as a challenge to myself, and I think I seriously just stumbled into something that I can apply in lots of contexts. It's hard to explain what this 1-billet routine can do for a group sitting around a table. It's been pretty doggone cool to facilitate a table-wide reading by sharing the spotlight around the table. I will try not to bump this thread very often, but if anyone is interested in receiving updates on this, just email me (reddevilmentalism@gmail.com).

I've been waiting on this thread to get started
I am a huge fan of Robert's (RedDevil's) work. His thinking is always fantastic. 777 was a book full of extremely powerful routines. I was sent a review copy of this; Robert and I have chatted in the past, and he is a very nice and helpful guy. (When are we going to Skype again, Robert??) First off, Robert has a simple to read writing style that is always concise and yet in depth. He also never has spelling or punctuation errors. That's always commendable. This ebook is no different. It is written outstandingly. The effect itself is great. It is less of an effect and more of a moment for the entire table. I see this often in RedDevil's work. He likes for his performances to mean something. It's refreshing for this day and age of random demonstrations of the performer's skill. This routine really makes the participants the stars. Sure, you are giving the reading in the end, but it was the participants who formed the basis of the reading. It has been stated already, but essentially the effect is this: Someone at the table -let's say Jill- secretly writes down a question she wants an answer to on a folded bit of paper. She writes it down and fold it up, ensuring that no one at the table could see what she wrote. This paper gets handed to a member of the table. This member intuits an aspect of Jill's question (this is genuinely intuited, there is no cueing of any kind.) He then hands the paper to the person beside him. This woman now intuits a different aspect of Jill's question (no cueing.) Finally, the paper is sat in front of you and without even touching it, you intuit another aspect of the question. You now have 3 words named by 3 different people at the table (two by spectators and one by you) all describing Jill's question. You then give a rather in depth reading based on the three words. The reading is accurate to Jill. You end by perfectly answering Jill's question. Come on people, does that sound good or what!? That is precisely what happens. I am not too familiar with readings, but if I'm not mistaken -correct me if I'm wrong, Robert- but this reading system is entirely Robert's idea. I know that I have personally never seen this "ET" idea. It is a very nice and clever way to allow other people to accurately reveal someone's question. It seems like this would make the reading very easy to do. A lot easier than other reading systems anyway. This will still require a bit of jazzing as all readings do, but I believe this will come along much easier than other systems. If you want a close up Q&A act that will create a moment for everyone involved with very little work at all, this is what you're looking for. Honestly, I think this item is the best Robert has created. This is SO well thought out, so simple, and so amazing for everyone involved. I believe this routine is the best of its kind. And I'm not just saying that. Robert has something really really special here. Please get it and support a rising superstar of mentalism. -Madison- P.S. Did I mention this doesn't use instant stooging or dual reality in any way, shape, or form? |

After the spectator writes his/her question down, does the spectator hand the billet to one of the other spectators or does the performer hand the billet out?
Thanks! RNK

Hi, all. I think most of the questions have been answered, but I will try to clarify a few things. In terms of a mentalism routine and without alluding to specifics, this uses classic billet methods. I think most of you will gather what that means. I offer nothing new in terms of "methodology" regarding billets. I do believe, however, that I have routined it appropriately where people will believe later there is no way I could have done such business.
As far as the system, I have offered the performer a way to allow other members of the table to participate in the reading, which allows for a nice little group dynamic opportunity that transcends the actual effect itself. There is a specific method/system to this, and to the table, they will see their peers genuinely offer accurate aspects of the question itself (without p88ks or DR). This is accomplished by the "ET" portion of this routine, which I won't name here because it relates to the system itself. It is very simple, but very effective, and those who have actually tested it have had a lot of fun with it. One thing I need to clarify is that one aspect of Madison's description may not be 100% accurate (this was accidental, I'm sure) in that by use of the ET, well, let's say that one spectator's response is not quite as free as the table will remember later. When I discovered how well this works, I just looked up at the sky and grinned. I believe the ET system has applications in many contexts outside of this one... One thing, while the routine is super simple, I don't think a novice will be as successful early on because basic r88d8n8 skills are a vital part of the success of the routine. I do believe I have scripted sufficient examples of how to do this, however, and I think it is approachable to most of us in Penny. I think this is about as transparent as I can be without revealing how it is done. I don't want to discuss the workings too much more because it will approach the method, but I am open to questions via PM or my email. I am getting near to release, but I have a few tweaks I have to make based on editors' feedback, etc.

I had the privilege to test this routine a few times and I really like it.
I had never done a Q&A routine before, so I can't really compare this to other works on the subject. What I can tell you is that I read it twice, then went out and tried it a couple of times and the reactions were great. I highly recommend this! I was the one who performed this for 10 people and a small note I want to make it that the routine as described in the book uses always 2 people to help answer the question of a third. And in my opinion this should not be repeated, which probably is why RedDevil said that a group of 10 might not be the right situation to perform this. The power of this routine (as most RedDevil's routines I've read) lies in the intimate feeling and the connection it creates between the person asking the question, the ones helping answering and the performer. That being said, even for 10 people this was the highlight of the night and people still talk about "that thing about the question"! So... Save this for that perfect moment |

I'm not sure how to approach this as I find it weird to ask questions on a product that's yet to be released, though reading billetless focus in the ad copy for 777 it seems the thinking behind this routine will be interesting to check out. I look forward to looking into the finished product along with reviews, at least providing its reasonably priced as opposed to a recent trend.

Okay, everyone. I am ready to share a pre-release with a discount for all those who have contacted me via email with your interest about "ET Q&A." If anyone is interested in the introductory sale, just email me at reddevilmentalism@gmail.com, and I will add you to the list.
In order to incentivize early adopters, the introductory price will be $20.00 through February 22, and all you have to do in order to receive this price is email me with your interest with subject line "Code Named: ET." I will also accept PayPal orders at the same email address. After February 22, the price will be $30.00. After the introductory process is over, I will post the manuscript here for the masses, and hopefully there will be plenty of people who have trusted me with their purchase who are willing to post an objective review. ET will be a PDF with 30 pages total (including cover and credits) typed in 16-point font. It contains the classic billet methodology, the script, and my ET system for including laymen in an accurate reading of a Q&A in a table setting. I have many people to thank for their help here, and they are credited in the manuscript. If anyone has questions, please PM me or email me. I hope you like it and will use it.

I purchased ET Q&A from Robert shortly after it was announced as being for sale, and Robert sent me the PDF within the hour, which was much appreciated.
Here are my thoughts on the routine: ET Q&A is a wonderful presentation that involves both the subject who wrote his or her question, as well as everyone at the table. Everyone participates without having any idea how it works. The mentalist ties everything together at the end of the routine with a reading that incorporates the intuitive input by all of the people at the table, his or her own intuitive input, as well as revealing the subject's actual question at the very end. I have never seen or heard of a Q&A presentation such as this, and I like it very much. It is indeed perfect for a dinner party or informal setting with friends. Clever thinking, and very nice subtleties provided throughout the routine. The method of gaining access to the written question is not new, but the presentation and subtleties are. Very pleased with my purchase, and can't wait to try this out at an upcoming dinner! Highly recommended. |

I thought I'd chime in here as I seemingly was one of the very few that didn't have glowing sentiments to share with R.W. regarding 777. He graciously accepted my thoughts on his work, but long story short it didn't quite fit my style and where I am as a performer.
Now on to this latest release... I very much like the concept and for those that do perform in casual settings and would like to "dip their toe into the world of Q & A" this would likely be one of my recommendations. I haven't performed this and the likelihood of me doing so is slightly low, but that's only because I tend to not perform in the casual setting which this would be more appropriate. With that said, I can see this playing very well. What I enjoyed most was his take on readings. To me, this gives those reluctant to give readings also a safer way to do so. For someone who is actually going to use this, I could see this being one of those things your friends want to do with you frequently. As RedDevil has mentioned above, this is fairly priced for those curious enough to take a plunge.

This is a gem. Easy to do the "work" (several options) and the rest is just fun and allows participation from the whole table. Everyone gets to be the reader and there is no right or wrong. You control how long the experience will go on... and when you decide it's time for the finish, you do your Q and A and the reveal however you want to present it and blow them all away. You can even hint at the reveal if the spec with the question does not want it disclosed and you will still get the impact you want.
It is designed for 3 or 4, but with some creative modification you can present it for a slightly larger group. |
