I currently use Juan Tamariz wonderful "neither blind nor stupid" as a perfect impromptu opener. This allows me to go straight into "out of this world" and head off from there in a multitude of possible directions. I'm a second time around amateur magician often using a pack of phoenix cards as a great ice breaker when travelling and meeting new people. I do however find Tamariz ending for "neither blind nor stupid" i.e. sniffing the cards just a little bit awkward in this day and age. I wondered if anyone had come up with an alternative patter or way to "locate" and then reveal the two cards please?

The answer is yes.
Just use the Café Quicksearch and get a number of threads on this effect.
So much to do, so little time . . .

Thanks alicauchy, I've searched a number of times but have yet to find anything specifically detailing an alternate closing of the trick. Could be that I don't have the required access yet (I've not reached 50 posts) Or I just need to keep searching. If anyone wants to PM me instead of posting I would appreciate it.

Jeff Pierce and I have a routine based on this trick. I turn one pile face up and riffle them together. During the riffle I spot the one of the "odd" cards out. I mentally reveal it and then have person concentrate on the the card to make it stand out from the rest. Then Ribbon spread to show it is the only odd card out. Then something similar for the 2nd card.

By the way, I also go straight from the Tamariz into the Paul Harris version of OOTW. I use this "Z" pattern to lay out the cards for the setup.

So how are you going into this impromptu? Are you just setting up the stack in front of the audience?

Hi sjrw,
I use it as an opener so the deck is already set up when I remove it from the box. Tamariz shows a few ways of "shuffling" the deck in front of the audience which can be seen on the performance section of the video (just google "Tamariz neither blind nor stupid") and in more detail on the download |

My thanks to those who have PM'd me with alternate endings for "NBNS" I've got some practicing to do! Please keep them coming. Would also be great to hear where you go after "OOTW" is there an obvious follow on or is it best to just shuffle and head off in another direction?

After OOTW, I use that delicious golden moment when people are just too distracted by what has occurred to pick up the required cards for shuffleboard by Aronson. I also have a card of the opposite coloured back in the cellophane (I put my blue cards in a red case and vice versa) where it is nicely invisible....after shuffleboard then I am able to pull it out discreetly and go right into Chicago Opener. Now that little lot is a hard hitting routine in itself.
Incidentally, a deck setup for Up The Ante allows you to either use the deck straight away for UTA or you could use it instead for NBNS.....your choice.
Have you tried 'Up The Ante' yet?? The ultimate gambling demo....a self-working wonder! See the reviews here on the cafe.
