At my high school graduation, My uncle (then in his early 60's) told my dad, (then in his early 50's) that he had about ten more years till body systems started breaking down. My Dad laughed it off.
My dad is now in his 80's and resentfull as hell since he found out my uncle was right. Worse news? I am now in my mid 50's

I'm in my 50's. I know my eyes are starting to go. And my hearing never was that good (tinnitus), but lately I am noticing that is worse, too. And it's easier to get fat. Maybe you're right.

Every decade there's something new physically. That's just life. But that doesn't mean that the quality of your life can't get better. I'm probably as happy now as I've ever been.

You lucky b*st*rds! Mere spring chickens, as far as I'm concerned! LOL.
I'm 63 and feeling it physically, if not mentally. But then, in my wicked youth I put my body through a lot of abuse by living the rock 'n' roll lifestyle to excess. |

I'm not far off fifty, and my last check up my doctor told me I would see 100 in good health. You all need to try more bacon and cabbage.

Turned 59 in November (share a birthday with Mickey Mouse). Sometimes I stand there at the cash register thinking; "Can I make it through ten more years of this?"

The number of steps in the stairwell seem to multiply the longer they are there. Babies are a lot faster than they used to be, teenagers are a lot stupider, and that ugly, wrinkly, saggy-faced old b*st*rd in the mirror used to be a chick magnet. But, I think I'm a whole lot wiser than I used to be. As they say, youth is wasted on the young.

I came to the conclusion that the directors never thought of me unless a) they had a large male cast to fill, in which case I'd pretty much be an extra, b) they had a limited time before opening because most of them know how fast I learn lines and/or c) the charcter was a clueless idiot. Examples; I did "The Threepenny Opera" where I was a number of minor characters I did "The Tempest" because the director called me and said; "I need you. I open in four weeks and I lost my King! I remembered how fast you learn lines, please help!" I did "No Sex Please, We're British" and "Love, Sex and the I.R.S." where I played clueless idiots. I was asked to come in and try out for a haunted house. A large group of us came over to the director's house and discussed various scenes he wanted to do. After seeing all the scenes he had in mind, I gave my requests for which sequences I'd like to be considered for. The director wrote some stuff down and announced that he still needed a "gorrila" for the "Rue Mourge" sequence on Sunday. I knew that was going to be one of the more miserable sequences to do, but as noone spoke up, I stupidly said; "OK, give me something on Saturday, and I'll do the gorrila on Sunday." Director wrote that down really fast and when he announced the cast, surprise surprise, ED was the gorrila on Sunday and NOTHING ELSE! I wrote the director a two page blistering letter mentioning his perchant for casting me at the last second when he couldn't find anyone else and casting me in "nothing" roles in other productions. When I showed up on Sunday, he actually said he was sorry and that he'd been afraid I wasn't going to show up at all after that letter. (I'm more professional than that) Then he said; "I'd actually could have used you on Saturday because someone didn't come in, but I was afraid you'd rip me a new one if I called you." I told him he was right, got into the gorrila costume and was miserable for four hours with a migraine afterwards.

Oh, and Wal-mart's scheduling prevents me from knowing exactly what evenings I'm going to have off so even if I weren't burned out completely on theater, I could do the scheduling.

Pretty sure it's wasted BY the young.
