Harrison, I think it's pretty amazing that you've been so forthcoming with responses here. I've always considered myself lucky to count you among my friends - and the advice you’re sharing here is exactly the kind of insight I've been the grateful recipient of for many years. This is a real gift to the readers of the Café!
Here’s a question I don’t think we've ever discussed... Do you think it's harder to become a trade show magician in today's world? There seems to be so many players in the field. Not to mention all the options companies have for getting their message out to attendees. It seems like technology is such a major attraction at big shows, I wonder how a magician can compete. Thoughts? |

I think it is easier in today's world than at anytime in the past. The difference today is that the selling message has to be conducive to today's corporate mentality. Just saying you can draw big crowds (like the early days) isn't enough. Believe it or not, there are NOT there are only about 20 major guys. There is another layer of guys who may not be considered 'players'. These are the guys the course is designed for, as well as those who have no idea but would like to enter the business. Companies DO have more options than ever, but magicians have statistics available through independent research that supports the their effectiveness. The only real competitive encumbrance that technology, or any multi-media presents, is the ambient noise they create, which can impede our ability to a certain degree. |
