Hi,
I am primeraly interested in coin magic, but it seems as though there are few books out there on the topic. Looking through my library, it seems as though I have very few books which have good solid coin magic. I obviously have Bobo, and I recently bought Roth's Expert Coin Magic. Are there any other books which can be advised. They don't have to be all coin magic, but hopefully containing a good deal. For example a book like Steel and Silver by Paul Gertner. Thanks, Owen |

Slydini's works are great. Check into that...ecspecially his spellbound techniques.

Coinmagic by Kaufman is a must !!!
Intermediate and advanced coin Technique by Rubinstein is pretty good and worth buying. Jimmy Buffalos's book had a good review, but I haven't got it yet. The Unexpected Visitor is very good, but the plots are reworkings of standard routines. Still buy it ! Neither - Gary Kurtz's nor Michael Gallo's books are all coins but both have a fair ammount and are good books anywhy. You will get flooded with books on coins. There are dozens, but the above are the best I know. Eddie Eddie |

Carney's Book of Secrets and Carneycopia also have some great coin work.

"KORT; The magic of Milton Kort", by Steven Minch has a whole chapter with coinmagic.
"Derek Dingle's Comple Works", by Richard Kaufman has also some nice routines with coins. Peo

Kid Ioa,
I have both books, and I agree the coin stuff is very strong. I am learning a variation of his coins to glass routine from "The Book of Secrets", and I am making good progress with that. I have problems performing Halves in the Mist from "Carneycopia" though (as I have mentioned in a previous post). Peo, I have been searching for the Dingle book for a while, but it seems very hard to come by. Thanks for the suggestions, Owen |

I would have to say Gary Kurtz as well, but his books as stated before aren't all coins. I love his flurious routine, it will take practice but it is great

Owen,
Ref. the Dingle book. If you are going to Blackpool there is usually a copy on sale there. Note though, that it wasn't on my list. Eddie |

Try to get your hands on 'Totally Out of Control' by Chris Kenner. Great coin work!
Kainoa Harbottle's books are amazing. Surprised they haven't been mentioned yet. Ed |

I have tried very hard to find a copy of "Totally Out of Control", but it seems as though it is out of print.
Both the magic shops in London (International Magic and Davenports), do not stock "Coin Magic" by Kaufman any more either. Is this out of print? I saw Richard Kaufman at Blackpool, and he had several copies of the "Complete Works of Derek Dingle". I did not buy it at the time, but he informed me that it was being reprinted, etc. Owen UPDATE: April 12, 2004 Since my last post (above) I bought Kainoa Harbottle’s “Coins on Edge” book. This is a great book, although the stuff will require considerable practice to get it to performance standard. All of the techniques are good as well as the tricks in the last section, all of which are very different and practical. Now I must get “Cointopia”. Owen |

Wasn't overly impressed with "Destroyers", the routine using the blue tac (hope that's not tipping the method) is great but otherwise I am not so sure.
I have not read any of the "knucklebusters" series, yet I have a copy of "Coin Ovations". I really enjoy watching this DVD. What is Dean Dill's book like? I hope to get his DVDs soon. Owen |

Hi, please, can anyone tell me which book or video is the best for jumbo coin routines?

Chris "linkster" Watson Special user England 564 Posts |
Wally, Flurious by Gary Kurtz is a fantastic Jumbo/ normal coin routine and many of the principles in this routine are easily transferable to create your own.
Other recommendations would be T.O.C Chris Kenner as stated above, a fantastic book incorporating coin magic. Kaufman- Coin Magic picks up from Bobo. Albert Goshman - Magic By Gosh is a master class in misdirection (worth getting the video of him performing live, available from international magic. Called albert goshman performs. Even on tape this has to be hands down the best magic I have ever seen!) Kainoa's coins on edge is fantastic. Gary Kurtz's book is excellent. Some useful stuff in Henry Hay''s Amateur Magicians Handbook although much of it is covered in bobo's. If gaffs are your thing, Coin vanish manuscript has some interesting stuff and Dan Watkins has a whole list of credits at the back which may be worth checking into. T. Nelson Downs has some interesting stuff, downs star, misers dream etc. Destroyers is worth while looking at if only for charming Chinese challenge (stunning magical routine). Scott F Guinn has a manuscript with some interesting stuff, the worm hole is a good routine. Hope that gives you a few to be going on with. |
