I hope this is the correct forum. I have been asked by a client to perform about 12 effects demonstrating "something bad becoming something good".
I was thinking along the lines of extreme burn where receipts become notes.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rather than focusing on effects to start, let's develop a theme and premises based in that theme. This will suggest types of effects and from that we can decide in specific effects.

The idea of good and bad suggests a duality theme. So what are dualities? Good and bad, young and old, up and down, left and right, truth and lies, here and there and so on. Just this short list should stimulate your thinking. Now you are building an act based on premises derived from a theme, and your act potentially has an inherent consistency of structure as a result.

Ink to water is a good example of a trick that is bad and becomes good. Ink bad to drink, water a good life source.

Multi n' Parvo, gluttony bad to over eat and drink to much. Not enough you are still thirsty, to much you are feeling sick. Just the right amount, you will feel refreshed.

Sounds like a tough project, however you didn't mention what your target audience would be, I'd image it would be children giving the theme is probably for teaching a lesson. Although, if you were to perform 12 effects with that one theme it might come across as kicking a dead horse after the first 3-4 effects.

This is the thinking you need. What is your theme? Are you presenting all 12 in a row at the same time? Throughout the night? Will the good to bad theme grow stale or ruin the endings to your trick by the time your at your last effect? All things to consider.

11Ring Chest (Ring vanishes but is found safely inside the locked chest)
12Vanishing Ketchup Bottle (bad trick with the gag vanish to good trick with the real vanish)
