How dare they pay their workers a living wage! I thought you would have agreed that employers could pay their workers whatever they wanted to, as long as it was compliant with minimum wage laws.
That freedom doesn't apply to McDonalds? Should we pass some laws to prevent the from paying "those people" too much money? Or would that qualify as government overreach? |

Does anyone really believe he is going to raise the pay scale to $15 an hour minimum?
If I were to agree with you. Then we would both be wrong. As of Apr 5, 2015 10:26 pm I have 880 posts. Used to have over 1,000

I DO think that employers can pay their employees whatever they want as long as it's compliant with minimum wage laws. See, that's where we're different. If McDonalds wants to pay their employees $15 or $50 an hour, I say go for it. You, on the other hand, think McDonalds should be forced by the boot of the government to pay what you decide is a 'living' wage. And Danny, do you ever post anything that doesn't make you sound like a cranky old man? |

I don't see how McDOnald's has a responsibility to give a "living wage" to it's part-time high school staff. Unskilled, might I add. People can earn more by being more valuable to an employer. If they have limited skills, why pay them more? But I agree with Slim; $50 should please everyone. But, then again, why stop there? It would be SO SIMPLE to make everyone a millionaire. We could all retire, and nobody would have to work! Seems perfect to me!
I don't see a drawback. |

They're going to be paying that in Los Angeles in a few years. In a related story, lots of luck to McDonalds franchise owners, and some current employees may as well start filling out those unemployment firms. Not every job is worth the wage that some would arbitrarily assign to it.

In a few years $15 will not be worth $15.

Disney raised the starting wage to $10 ... but guess what happened to the guys that had been there several years that had worked their way up from $7.50 .... Well ... THEY still get $10 an hour. How fair is that? How does the new guy deserve as much as someone who has worked there three or four years?
If your answer is to give them ALL a raise ... then look at that... Disney has 60,000 employees (Florida).. Let's give them all a buck an hour more..OK? Well that $480,000 a day..... About $15 Million a month...180 Million a year .... Now lets say you pushed that up to $15 like everyone wants .... That's $900 Million a year ... Almost a Billion Dollars just for a single Florida section of one company EVERY YEAR!!!!! With park profits at 2.2 Billion (An awesome year) that almost cuts profits in half. http://www.forbes.com/sites/csylt/2014/0......profits/

Kiosks and robots demand no wage. $15 an hour is 30K a year. Do we think taking orders is a skilled job? Soon young people will have no starter jobs where they learn the basics of showing up, responsibility, team work, etc. Our economy will not support unskilled and often not bright people earning what a somewhat skilled person does. If your goal is to have a career that consists of putting money in a drawer and burgers in a bag, don't count on it paying or lasting. This is the start to more poor people being unable to enter the workforce because machines will do those jobs. It's going to devastate the very people it's designed to help. But then again, that's what government usually does.

At least the value of their dollars won't.
