The trailer you linked to above would lead me to believe that he probably covers how to do that trick in his Penguin lecture "Rob Zabrecky LIVE (Penguin LIVE) " . If you're not sure of exactly what tricks are covered in the lecture , email Penguin's sales dept. first to ask them , before you purchase it .

Or are you looking for references to other books or videos which cover paper cutting and magic effects with paper ? There are several other books which cover that topic ; you might start with this book by Karl Fulves: http://historyofmagiconline.com/books/se......r-magic/ .

.

So you purchased access to the entire lecture , but during the actual lecture he never explains a trick that is shown in the trailer? That doesn't seem right. You should ask for a refund. If they use a certain trick on the trailer to entice you to purchase the lecture , but then they don't explain the trick during the lecture I'd say it's bait-and-switch false advertising. I try never to purchase a lecture (video or notes) without reading a table of contents that clearly lists what will be covered in the lecture (some lectures do make a note that certain effects are "* performance only, but not taught *" ) , however if that's not clear from the description I think you have a case for asking them to refund your money . (Good luck with that).

KSan, if you are talking about the string of paper candles in the little picture on that referenced web address, then that is a simple "paper dolls" paper cutting trick found I most books on paper craft and magic.

This book will help you understand how to create a chain of items.

The trick is very interesting. I've often seen Gene Anderson perform this with a big snowflake, also I've seen several mages doing this with a snowflake.

If you mean the part where he cuts the paper so that the message
"Penguin Live"
appears, IIRC Gene Anderson and Frances Marshall have some ideas in the book "Newspaper Magic" where "paper objects are created with a torn message finale" that can probably be adapted to cutting instead of tearing.

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone interested, it's based on an Annemann trick in PMM or PME. He says so during the lecture.

Thank you Joaquín! I found it in the PME page 100. Maybe it's a coincidence.
This is an interesting routine! To open the show.
Classics in a new interpretation.
Thanks for the links - it was interesting to plunge into the source. Smile
