It's tough to tell if any movie is good from a trailer. I'll reserve judgment.
However, I think it's unfair to say that if people express a dislike for the trailer or movie they're being disrespectful to Lance Burton. I don't think anyone is above criticism if they do substandard work, and if some feel the work is substandard, they should be free to say so. And frankly, if we're only allowed to say nice things about work that he does, it calls into question ALL praise for his work; after all, if people are required to say good things, who knows when the praise is honest? |

I have a TV show that's currently airing on ABC Family. Reviewers can be harsh; viewers at home can be even worse. You wouldn't believe some of the horrendous stuff people say about what we do. But at the end of the day, it's not about the ratings and it's not about the reviews - it's about what you did. Sure it's a bummer to hear criticism of your work, but that's the nature of the entertainment business and if you take it personally, you're in the wrong line of work. What one person falls in love with, another person is going to despise.
I've spent time with Lance and he's a great guy. Smart and extremely talented. He knows this industry very well. No one here is putting him down.

That trailer was great, I did not see any poor or bad action in the whole trailer. It must be the common tricks like the Flying Carpet that magicians are expecting new magic tricks just for the movie. How ridiculous thinking. There is a whole line up of famous magicians Lance has called on to appear in the movie.
Listen to Lance talk about the movie and how it came about, here: Quote:

I don't think anyone who didn't like it has said "I want new tricks" and there's no justification for accusing them of this supposed "ridiculous thinking." Not everyone is going to agree with you. That doesn't mean you have to accuse them of "ridiculous thinking," particularly when the "ridiculous thinking" is an assumption you've made based on nothing a single person has said. |

Not sure about the movie but I have to say, Lance is consistent in giving back to the community. He performs shows for the staff and students at the most severely handicapped school in Vegas each and every year. He's a great guy so let's cut him some slack.

Good or bad, even if it's self-financed, getting a movie made is a big accomplishment.

Too bad the legacy has to be limited to magicians. Had he pursued a talented group of writers, producers, and established actors, Mr. Burton could have appealed to a wider audience.
Unfortunately, a layperson will walk away from this wondering why a world class entertainer made a movie that's on par with, "Ernest Goes To Prison". |

I just read in Vanish Magazine:
Lance Burton’s “Billy Topit Master Magician” World Movie Premiere September 24th at Brenden Theaters in The Palms. Event and Limited Release to Beneft Local Charities with Red Carpet starting at 4 P.M. and Curtain Speech at 5:30 P.M. Las Vegas (July 13th, 2015) – Produced and Directed by Lance Burton with screenplay by Lance and Michael Goudeau, “Billy Topit Master Magician” is not a biography of Lance Burton’s life but a fctional character in a fctional setting that happens to be set in Lance’s adopted hometown of Las Vegas. “The one thing Billy and I share in common is this, we both love magic and we both love Las Vegas. I guess that is two things actually” stated Lance. The independent comedy took over fve years from idea to theatrical release and has been Lance’s labor of love since retiring his stage show in 2010 at the Monte Carlo Resort. The inspiration for the movie harkens back to Lance’s childhood. “When I was a kid I saw Bill Bixby in a TV series called “The Magician.” I loved that show. Through the years there have been many flms and TV shows with magician characters and some were quite good. I just felt that I could bring something to the table that was genuine. Something based in reality. I didn’t want to do the stereotypical mysterious magician character. That’s why Billy Topit is a struggling magician, even though he is very skilled.” Lance has a long history in the television and movie industry from his appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson to starring in his own network TV specials to being Magic Consultant on the blockbuster movie “Oz the Great and Powerful,” starring James Franco. “I was fortunate enough to receive lessons from Lance Burton… and I got to have him as my private teacher for weeks, which was great. I look at myself on the stage and there are certain fourishes where I carry myself that defnitely come from Lance, who is just a great guy and a great teacher and great magician,” stated Franco in an interview for “Oz.” The cast of “Billy Topit Master Magician” is full of many of Lance’s friends, most of which are magicians, jugglers, comedians, as well as actors. Louie Anderson, Mac King, Robin Leach, as well as, Criss Angel all make cameo appearances. “When my dear friend Lance asked me to make a cameo in his movie (Billy Topit Master Magician), I was honored. When I heard my scene was a twisted nightmare – I thought perfect – I’m right at home,” said Criss Angel. While there might be a nightmare scene in the movie Lance went on to say, “This is a family friendly movie that I hope will connect with people all over the world. It is a love letter to Las Vegas. When I am no longer around, I hope Billy Topit will still be inspiring people to visit our city. I am also honored to be able to donate all of the funds raised by the World Premiere and Limited Engagement run at Brenden Theaters to three charities close to my heart, Variety The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, Las Vegas Shriners and Nevada SPCA. I hope to spread a little magic around the world with “Billy Topit Master Magician” and here at home.” For tickets to the World Premiere of Billy Topit Master Magician Tickets $25 available at VarietySN.org Red Carpet arrivals at 4 P.M. Curtain speech and welcome by Lance Burton & cast at 5:30 P.M. Movie at 6 P.M Brenden Theaters at The Palms Hotel & Casino Las Vegas. To view click here: https://youtu.be/3E1vYg6T3dE |

Wow, a lot of mixed feelings. But after all, what's that saying? "A magician is only an actor playing the part of a magician." This seems to make the saying quite literal. Personally, I would love to see it. I respect Lance Burton as a magician. And, I also happen to think the trailer looks pretty bad but I hope the movie raises money and is great.

Did anyone see this? It looks horrible when I saw previews but was hoping they edited it to be better.
I recently read it was going to close some film festival but still have not seen any outside magic reviews. |

Lance is an amazing magician... that doesn't make him a cinematographer or film producer. I love Lance, he is a great guy. Everyone needs a hobby, this was his. Let's just let it be what it is.
