So I'm thinking of trying my hand at constructing my own Fiedler's Flier gaff.
It seems simple enough, and making one out of two cards (instead of simply using a single, specially printed one) might, it seems to me, offer a certain more authentic "dimensionality," especially around the edges. But I'm just wondering: should the "gaffy" part of the gaff be affixed permanently, like with Elmer's glue? Or would there be any advantage to sticking it on with a non-permanent adhesive, like double-sided tape or a re-positionable glue stick? Doing so would allow removing (and ditching) the "business end" of the gaff somehow, if you could work out a discreet way of doing so. That way, you could end completely clean. But is that practical, or even necessary? (Running when not being chased?)

Personally, if I wanted the gaff removeable, I would use double stick tape (but take a good bit of the stickiness out of it by applying it to something else, first, which would aid in gaff removal). If I don't care about gaff removal, I would go with double stick tape or rubber cement.
Guess whatever you end up using may be driven by how you'll want to use the deck for other effects after you use the gaff card (though there are always creative ways to ditch the card).
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

You might also try the adhesive that comes from the fluid of more than 9 Tana leaves. You'll have a gaff "the likes of which the world has never seen!"

Being able to remove and ditch the "gaffy" part of the gaff would just serve as insurance, in case of "grabby" spectators unexpectedly seizing the gaffed card for impromptu inspection.

But why would anyone do that? And how would they get access to the deck?

The way I've seen this gaff used in demos, the gaff card is used to briefly mark the position of the spectator's selected card within the fanned deck, and then set aside.
The rest of the routine ignores it, using only the deck. But so long as that discarded gaff sits there, off to one side, an impulsive spec might grab it (especially after the amazing climax) for a quick look. Yes, the gaff could be pocketed instead of merely laid aside. But that in itself seems a rather suspiciously odd move, what with the rest of the deck still openly in play....

Try this. Make the gaffed card with a joker. When you start performing, pull the deck out, remove the jokers and put them in your pocket. When you want to do the force, take out the joker that's gaffed, do the force, and put the joker back in your pocket. Putting the gaff away immediately after the force is motivated in this way, since you don't need the jokers and that's where you put them in the first place.

Or put the gaff on the back of a credit card and have spec use that to insert in deck. Then take back the credit card and place it back in the wallet where it belongs. Joker works well too as suggested. I use both and I think handing over your credit card draws the spec deeper into the trick as long as you have good patter for taking out your wallet.

Both good ideas -- thanks!
