I've been trying to make some gaff cards where the face is split half-half (normal back) but I'm finding that the card ends up flimsy right along that split line and doesn't handle well. Any way to tighten this up?

Greetings Bill08;
Here is what I have found works best so take it for what it is worth. Split the thin face off a card, then set the card aside. Now split the thin backs off the two cards that will comprise your split such as Queen of Spades/Queen of Hearts. Place the two together one on top of the other and make your cut cutting them diagonally or side by side, cutting both in two at the same time. Take the top left side and the bottom right side (so both form a perfect match) and glue them to the first card that you removed the thin face from. What you will have is two halves that are thin face and center, they are glued to a thin back and center. Your card will be slightly thicker, but will not bend as easy at the joint so long as you are not doing crazy shuffles and such with them. Hope that was clear and helps. All the Best Marty |

Thank you very much Marty
I was not cutting them at the same time, so I will try this - it might be an alignment problem. I'm also using an extra-strength glue stick so maybe I'll try rubber cement instead. Have you ever experimented with putting a coating over the join line? Bill |

Greetings Bill;
I think the glue stick might be part of the problem. I use rubber cement in making my gaffs. When you cut the two cards at the same time, the reverse half of each card is a perfect match when switched. That is important to get the two halves to match so that the line is invisible as possible. It will never be perfectly invisible, but you can get very close. Anytime I can be of help, just shout, I am only an e-mail away. All the best Marty |
