How much misdirection does this require compared to a normal MF? (That can also be executed quite nice!!)
|

ToddLamanske New user 27 Posts |
It is the same as far as misdirection. You prepare the card(s) in advance and then when you are ready to do the fold it is perfect as well as much easier to do. The Bullet is a tool that scores the card for a perfect fold. As for misdirection, I often have an indifferent card reversed in the deck and when they turn it over; that's when I do the Mercury fold. It is covered in detail on the DVD that comes with the Bullet.

First let me start off by saying I think Jon Allen has released some great effects. The packet trick Double Back is my favorite packet trick I do. As for card effects, I really enjoy his Rule of Three. It is an entertaining premise and hits them hard. I only say that because I want it to be known that I have no beef with Jon and generally like his magic.
With that being said, I have owned and tried Perfect Score and the Bullet and (in MY opinion) the bullet is better. I had issues with both the accuracy of Perfect Score as well as difficulty using it. Because Perfect Score has "channels" to run the tool through on the border, once I put the guide plate in the channel didn't always line up with the guide plate. I also had issues with the card getting trapped in the apparatus so once I was done scoring the card, I would go to tip it out and it would be stuck. Now there is a good chance I had a bad one, but none the less that is the experience I had. I will say, if you are looking to score a card for sixths, Perfect Score is probably the way to go. The bullet included a DVD which included some great routines, the guide, and the bullet cutting tool. For me, having a side loading guide instead of having to drop the card into the guide (where it can possibly become stuck) is more efficient. More efficient because I can get the card in/out of the guide more quickly. The other big plus for me is there are fewer pieces to keep track of with the Bullet. You have one guide and the cutting tool. With perfect Score you have the card holder, three separate guides, and the cutting tool. I think because there are more pieces used in Perfect Score it increases the likelihood of there being inaccuracies (like I had). So, if you are looking to score cards into sixths and want a cheaper price, then go with Perfect Score. However, if you want routines and a guide that IMO is easier to use, then go with the Bullet. For me, the Bullet fit the bill.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the stuff in the first paragraph ;-)
I should point out that after the first run of Perfect Scores all subsequent ones have a hole in themiddle of the template. This allows the card to very easily be poked out of it. If you can show me a photo of how offset the scoring is, I'll happily replace it if it is due to a defective item. It is all precision made and laser cut so it should not be so bad that it can't be used properly. As for the amount of items....... a bag Regards, Jon

I have Perfect Score and did a whole deck while watching TV.
The routine I use is Folded signed card to Mesika Wallet which is meant for a Mercury Folded card to wallet. Perfect fold every time. I am sure Todd Lamanske DVD is very good. But I'm not spending money all over again for a device that does the same thing that Jon Allen Perfect Score does already + the Tommy Wonder Card folded into 6th.

Hey Neznarf, just so you know, the Bullet will score a card for folding into sixths. That said, I totally understand if you already have the Perfect Score and it is working for you. It is a great product and works well. All the best to you!

Is the template designed to score the card into sixths?

The Bullet Guide does not measure for scoring in sixths. However, it is a simple matter of making those 2 scores with a straight edge.
This got me thinking, I wonder how much longer it takes to score in sixths with the Bullet compared to the Perfect Score. So, I compared them. I kept it fair and worked at the same pace. I scored 5 cards with both products and timed it. Here are my results: To score in sixths with the Perfect Score I did 5 cards in 1:48. I did the same with the Bullet (using a straight edge for the 2 short scores) and I did 5 cards in 1:56. The Bullet is a little slower for scoring in sixths but only by 8 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised by this. I decided to compare the Perfect Score and the Bullet for the standard Mercury Fold. Again, I kept it fair and worked at the same pace. I scored 5 cards with both products and timed it. To score in quarters with the Perfect Score I did 5 cards in 1:16. I did the same with the Bullet and I did 5 cards in 0:42. That is 34 seconds faster. I was also surprised by this. So, the facts are these: If you want to score cards in sixths, the Perfect Score is a little faster. If you want to score cards in quarters (for the Mercury Card Fold), the Bullet is a lot faster. The Bullet also has fewer parts (2 vs. 5) and I personally find the Bullet to be a lot easier to use. The Bullet also comes with a detailed DVD showing you how to use the Bullet and Guide. How to burnish the score lines (which everyone should do regardless of what you score with). It teaches several moves as well as 5 great routines with a folded card. I really don’t want to start a big thing between Jon and I. As I have said before, I am a huge fan of Jon and his work. But hey, this is just my comparison. I would love to hear from anyone else that has both products. |

I purchased The Perfect Score and received one of the first few to hit the market and was very happy with it as it scores your cards perfectly into fourths or sixths. I've been scoring cards for about 3 years or so and used a ruler and X-acto knife. When The Bullet came out I had to get one because I like seeing differenences and was intrigued. After buying the Bullet and doing a hands on comparison using both scoring tools, I found the Bullet to be much more efficient and faster to use. Yes, you can also score cards into sixths using both tools. That said, Tommy Wonder uses an eighths fold not a sixths (Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder Vol.1 pgs 136-140) so you'll have to make additional cuts using either tool, and the Bullet in that case is much more efficient. For me, the Bullet is just faster, easier, and more efficient. Both Todd and Jon are great guys and both have very good products. All I'm doing here is telling you which one I prefer and why. The routines on the Bullet are great worker routines and that's a plus. One thing is certain; when you score the cards the fold you use will be faster, nearly silent, and perfect and that makes your ending even more impossible!

A couple posts back Todd mentions burnishing the score lines.
First I've heard about that. That may be reason alone to go with the Bullet. |

Does anyone use this for an ambitious routine? The score lines seem obvious especially in bright light
|
|||||||||
ToddLamanske New user 27 Posts |
Hey Eric, I use it for Ambitious all the time. After you score them and then burnish down the score lines, they are almost invisible and to a layman, they are invisible. You have to remember that they aren't looking for anything on the card. But even if you're looking for it, it's still hard to see. Let me give you an example; I usually begin my ambitious routine by doing a repeat force of the same card (about 3 or 4 times). This card is always a scored card. Sometimes when I do this, after selecting the same card several times in a row, they will look at the back of the card. I think they are looking for marks or something (even though that wouldn't explain them taking the same card over and over). But here's the thing, they NEVER see the score lines, even when examining the back of the card. There's just nothing to worry about. And the payoff is a perfect fold...every time!

Can you safely allow the spectator to handle the scored card?
Or is too flexible and easily bent that it could arouse suspicion? I've tried scoring a card on my own but in order to make it fold nicely it also seemed to make it somewhat fragile. Probably magician thinking I know. |

Top notch package all around. I have both the Perfect Score and now the Bullet. Both are nice devices and are well made. Both get the job done as advertised. As mentioned, Jon's is a 4 piece item while the Bullet is a two piece item. Not a big deal. The Bullet is essentially an all inclusive tool where you move the card. With Jon's the card stays put and the additional guides move. Jon's cutter is flat and rides essentially in a track. The Bullet's cutter is rounded and rides along a guide. I had some issues with my Perfect Score cutter so I like Todd's better. The Bullet is faster, but I don't really care about speed. What I do care about is invisibility of the score lines and here is where the Bullet separates itself. Todd has two great tips that make the score lines all but invisible. Very impressive. Also nice is the durability aspect. With the Perfect Score, a lot of my folded cards broke. With Todd's tips, breaking is all but impossible. Another point for the Bullet.
Finally, the routines. Todd includes 5 routines, all with live performances. All are killer. He performs them well and explains them well. I have nothing negative to say. I can't see anyone that buys this being the least bit disappointed. Todd also includes a section to explain the moves he uses in the routines. I usually skip over these sections but I'm glad I didn't here. Todd teaches the Ultra Move which, despite my 30+ in the biz, I had not come across before. It's Todd's version of a Harry Lorayne move and it's fantastic. Hard to master but worth the effort. I'll be adding it for sure. All in all, a fantastic release by Todd. While I know this isn't a Bullet vs. Perfect Score thread, since I do have them both, I can compare the two. While both are quality products, IMO, the Bullet is the hands-down winner if you are on the fence. Well done Todd. |

Hey Videoman, if you score the card too deep it could result in a fragile card that could crack/break at the score. The Bullet takes the guess work out of that. And yes, the spectator can absolutely handle the card! I am a full time performer so I use this a lot and no one EVER sees the score lines.
