My friends and I are going to the U.S this winter
to catch magic shows in Vegas and visit the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Currently, we are planning to hit the casinos, see David Copperfield, Mac King, Pen&Teller, and visit the Magic Castle. I was wondering what else is there to see in Las Vegas/Hollywood. (Recommendations on other cities to visit are also needed!) Even something that isn't magic related but enjoyable would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tim. |

You know you will need an invitation to the Magic Castle?

While in Vegas if you're there on a Wednesday, I highly recommend going to Gary Darwin's club which is in the back of Boomers Bar at 9pm. There you never know who you're going to meet and its far from any conventional magic club meeting you've ever been to. There is no formal meeting, business, or dues at all, it's one hundred percent just hanging out with other magics, often famous magicians like Siegfried and Roy, Allan Ackerman, Micky Silver, you name it. Going to that club gave me one of my most memorable memories in magic ever. Have fun!

Denny & Lee's magic shop is located just off the strip. They used to have lots of lecture notes as well as the standard items you would expect from a magic shop. It might be worth calling to see if anyone is lecturing while you are there.

Tim, be sure to make arrangements ahead of time for your visit to the Magic Castle. It's a private club, and you'll need a guest card from a member to enter. I'm not a member, but was able to visit after securing a guest card from a member (the member does not need to accompany you), and the guest card let me bring a few others with me. It was a great night -- highly recommended.
One easy way to secure admission is to stay as a guest at the Magic Castle Hotel. Also, members in good standing with SAM and IBM may visit the castle -- you'll want to call ahead to arrange an invitation.
It's still magic even if you know how it's done.

When in vegas, you can check out a lot of the Cirque shows... I think there are about 8 of them.
Also check out the gamblers general store in Vegas if you want some nice cards, dice, chips etc. When in Los Angeles, make sure to stop by the Magic Apple. They are a great magic shop that usually has Magic Castle members strolling though all the time. |

Another magic act to check out in Vegas is Murray Sawchuck. In addition, if you head down to the Fremont Street Experience, you can catch a couple of performers out there, including Chris Randall.
