From th Escapist Michael Lee who passed this info along to me
Update... Norman Bigelow : Norman just got home from the hospital and settled into his new bed. He is exhausted from the little trip, he came home in an ambulance of course. He is so weak, can't stand or sit so he is comfy in his bed. He has had several calls since he got here wishes for a Happy Birthday of course. He is in and out of sleep, I'm sure the meds he is on is the reason. He is sometimes confused. Thank you to everyone for all the Birthday wishes. Norman really appreciates it. Loves his Teddy Bears. Norman is on comfort care at this point, that means no more treatments or transfusions because they really wouldn't do any good. I'm glad he is home with me and this is where he wants to be for his Final days. Thanks to all who made this a day to remember for Norman's Birthday... Janet |

This is not an update I ever wanted to write - This is Via Janet on Facebook - Norman passed away yesterday August 16th at 4:03 pm. He was comfortable, without pain and at home where he wanted to be. He was aware and pleased that he got to see many friends and family members and felt loved. Janet
R.I.P Norman, he was an inspiration to all in the escapology world

Sad news.
Norman Bigelow was a pioneer. We were friends--then enemies--then friends again. I'll definitely miss him.

The saddest of news. An original thinker and innovator. Not many come this way the likes of Norman Bigelow. Our hearts go out to his family.

A great loss to the art. Norm was a free tinker & a great teacher, always willing to share his knowledge. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on.

Thanks for the update. I am deeply saddened by this loss, but am gratified that he was able to pass in peace, comfort, and surrounded by those he loved.
Here's a germ of an idea. We, as escape artists, are often up for a challenge. It's almost seen as a staple. Perhaps a bit derivative of the "ice bucket challenge" that raised so much money for ALS, we could initiate an Escape Leukemia Challenge in honor of Mr. Bigelow. Someone performs an escape, posts it on YouTube, then challenges three others to do a similar escape or donate (perhaps to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society). Hopefully, it would catch on beyond our small group here and do some good. At the very least, it would be of low overhead (leaving more to go to donations) and could be done with all participants at a distance. I'd gleefully participate, but I don't think I'm the one to kick it off, as I am a *very* low profile performer and we'd need a bigger name than I for it to catch.

RIP indeed. A man who gave his life to the escape arts and someone who, through his books and DVD, I learnt so much from.
