I haven't had much luck in my online research, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that sell various Zombie Balls. Something other than the standard ball. I know you can make your own out of practically anything, but I'm curious to see what's on the market (e.g. Luna Shimada's ball...perhaps it's custom). I'm not really interested in things like Zombira, though it's a nice effect. I'm looking for the classic feel with a modern prop I guess.
Anyways...enough rambling. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

The word "various" has me puzzled, what do you mean by various.
There is only one kind of ball called a Zombie. It is usually an aluminum ball. Years ago, they use to have a white Styrofoam ball. If you mean various brands, then there is the following: Rings & Things II Viking Magic Ickle Pickle Magic There is another brand, but it is hard to find is not polished, and very little information on it. Morrissey Magic, now defunct, was the only manufacturer that made a various sizes from 3 inch to 5 inch. There are Zombie's made in India now, they look okay but the gimmick is made wrong with one version. So I believe their are at lest 2 India manufacturers as the other gimmick is made correctly, but is thin and gimmick is in the wrong position. Rings & Things II makes and sells gimmicks separately. General Grant sells or sold a special 3 inch ball made just for him to sell, it was made by Morrissey, so it is unknown if he still has any stock, as he only can be contacted by email and sending a money order by snail mail. General Grant also makes a very nice heavy duty 2 finger gimmick. All this competition drove the regular long time manufacturers here in the U.S. out of business. |

I guess what I'm looking for is something other than the standard aluminum ball. Like I said, I know you can perform the effect with practically anything (hell, the old dinner roll on the fork comes to mind), so I was curious if there was any derivatives from the original idea on the market.'
I heard about Morrissey's plight today during a brief visit to Denny & Lee (whose future is also looking bleak). In fact, I asked the same question there, and they basically said there was nothing out of the ordinary out there. That's what I had already figured during my own research, but I figured I'd ask the pros if they had any inside intel In the end, it's no big deal, as I am just as comfortable with idea of performing the classic in its entirety...and I could always design my own concept down the line. All in all, it's a sad state of affairs for B&M stores, as well as U.S. manufacturers...but I guess that's a common thread amongst all the industries out here.

Call Losander. He has a great variation on the classic zombie. Then there's the glass and I bet he would build out anything you were thinking about.

Does anyone make a zombie ball that isn't divided into hemispheres or that doesn't look like plastic (if it's a solid piece)? I'm working on a routine that transitions between a floating ball and a zombie ball, and I'm looking for visual continuity between the two. I'm using two different balls, but I want them to appear to be the same one, and hemispheres kind of kill it.

It's based on the Zombie principle, but much better... the ball -at least the one I have- does not look like a regular zombie ball, but more like a red basket ball. Unfortunately this version is not sold any more, you only might be able to get it used from places such as Hocus Pocus. But I think it's worth tracking it down... |

Where can I find a Zombie Ball routine? My zombie Ball was given to me by "Merlin" the magician at the Texas Renaissance Fair for over 10 years, Bill Palmer, a member and contributor here, an all out superb magician and a wonderful friend and a good man! My hat's off to Bill! (Sorry Bill no one has ever asked Arnold if he was related to you, now its too late.
Hope you see this Bill. |

Rich Lucas, To my knowledge there is not any pre-created Zombie routines published. If you can find the Losander DVD, he may come the closest to a routine. In most cases it is left up to the individual to search the books on Zombie and then be creative and create their own routine.

There have been a few maunscripts about Karson's Zombie such as:
_Further Tips on Zombie_ by Neil Foster (an expanded version of his original manuscript _Tips on Zombie) _A la Zombie Plus_ by Ian Adair _Magic City Library of Magic #20: Zombie_ by Leon Behnke _Zombie the Floating Ball_ by Lewis Ganson (part of his Magic Teach-In Series from Supreme) ---------- If you can find General Grant's lecture notes, I think he included some info on Zombie. Neil Foster complimented General Grant on hs unique vanish of the Zombie Ball with a puff of smoke. Denny Haney carries the note: http://dennymagic.com/store/general-gran......ves.html and Denny's description of the notes says: -----quote----- This lecture book by General Grant is a great reference book from a true professional dove worker. His tips, tricks, steals, gimmicks, etc. are all described in this book. The real work on bags, holders, steals, the double dove production, dove to silk, etc. Includes work on the Zombie ball complete with vanish at the end. Magical regards, Amado "Sonny" Narvaez

All those materials are excellent, but none have a complete routine explained in detail. Most only have ideas and moves that could be included in a routine if the person so desires.
Now that I think about it, there is one publication called Zombie The Floating Ball Teach IN, published by Supreme Magic and written by Lewis Ganson that has 2 complete routines explained, along with additional ideas. http://www.lybrary.com/zombie-the-floati......017.html |
