Ive got a question about david blaines version of healed and sealed in his tv special. ive read the booklet and everything, but blain seems to have a way of doing this trick that the booklet does not explain.
what I mean is that david is able to switch the soda can or beer can from one hand to the other without "messing up", those of you with the trick will understand where I'm coming from. he is even able to hand the can out as is shown when he performs the trick in the park for the couple. if you can figure out how he manages to perform the trick so well, id love to hear your theory. my email is thegift87@hotmail.com thanks a lot fellow magicians It seems some of you are having trouble finding a way to set up healed and sealed out in the open. heres what I do. I always keep a few "black holes" with me in my wallet as well as the other important item. if your planning to use the trick on some friends it might be an idea to carry around a room temperature soda can with you in your backpack or pocket, the only thing is that this could become uncomfortable. you could also probably just buy a soda can from a nearby cornershop but once again this can lessen the effect because the can would most likely be refrigerated, try asking them for some non refrigerated cans as they will usually have boxes of them in storage. out in public I find the best place to set up the trick is in a public bathroom or something, just hop into one of the cubicals and set the trick up over the toilet (you might want to flush the toilet sometime during the set up so as to drown out some of the weird sounds you will most likely be making). once the whole thing is complete its just a matter of planting it, you could just plant it down outside the set up point (public bathroom), or on a grass patch nearby. if you have time try planting it on a route your pretty sure your friends will be taking, just make sure your not seen!!. its important not to feel the need to drag your mates over immediately after youve planted the can, if you seem to ancy about showing them an empty soda can they may become suspicious. take your time, don't rush anything, you can direct your friends over to the can anytime you want. one time I planted the can on a set route my friends and I were going to take when going to the beach, I planted the can so early that I absolutely forgot about it, I only really remembered it once I walked past with my mates and saw it lying there in the gutter, that really was impromptu!!. if you manage to set the can up in a bathroom at a party or shopping mall, you could try sneaking out and planting the can beside one of your friends cars. if you walk them back to thier cars you are in the perfect position to "discover" the can and perform the trick. I hope all of this helps, ive tried everything ive typed here and it all works beautifuly for me. I wish you all the same sucess with this trick. any comments?? thegift87@hotmail.com |

Another idea is to use a double stick tape so that you can then quickly remove the opening by allowing it to stick to your palm. Try different things. I don't particularly like this effect because it's not impromptu and you have to stage where to put the can etc. If you're in a closed space, then you can place it in a bin or something. Doing it on a street requires some serious setup. |

I love this! There was a story about a famous magician (Malini, I think) who would scruff up a card and leave it somewhere face down where he would pass with friends at a later point. Upon passing the spot he would claim that he'd handled cards so often that he could "read" that backs and know what card it was. Then he'd point to the distressed card on the ground and say; "That, for example, is the four of clubs!"

Just a Psych note:
How many times have you seen/felt a totaly empty can? Most people leave some dregs in the bottom and people are not paying attention if you shake the can and say "someones left abit in the bottom". Try this... Put 5 gaffed cans in a bin, ask a person to pass you any empty can. They wont pick up on the gaff and it wont matter there is some liquid in it.

I once planted a can during a campfire. Everyone was throwing their empty beer cans towards the edge of the fire ring. I set the thing up in the nearby bathroom and planted it without anyone saying a word. Some hours and many beers later, I grabbed the can and did healed and sealed. Floored them!
Here's the best part. For the gimmick, I used ASHES FROM THE FIRE! |

Just like thegift wrote. I too carry the required tools in my wallet, and set up in a bathroom. Very easy, and once you get the mang of it, it doesn't really take long. A room temp can definately works the best for the restoration, and it also makes the set up faster. Those who have it know what I mean. Also, I would suggest experimenting with different brands. I found out at a work related picnic that store brand sodas sometimes work extremely well!

I once set up a can and switched it for an empty, crushed can sitting in front of my friend, that he had just finished. I let it sit there for a half hour or so, and no one ever touched it, let alone look at it. It was great. There happened to be another magician there (it was a party of sorts) and we'd been showing each other stuff, we both knew everything the other did (although he was much better at flourishes)... I pulled off H&S and blew his mind. It was great.

HI,
I was fortunete to have it taught to me rather than buy it, as I'm not really a street magician I woulda only bought it outa intrest, its a great trick, I can set it uo inunder 30secs and people that use it will know it is eaiser to use a board marker pen for the lid, as it rubs off. Warm cans and aluminum cans work best. Matt Okay I'm double postin (naughty me!) thegift I don't think he switches the can. Do you know who to do it? you don't switchc it. Matt OKAY I'VE READ YOUR EARLIER POST I cant be bothered emailing you to be honest, the gim is at the bottom not were you normally put it. if you can understand my crazy explination. Matt |

Makes no sense matt, learn how to type your thoughts a little less nonsensical.
what I mean is david switches the can from one hand to the other without getting a stream of coke or beer in his face.i too have the gimmick at the bottom of the can, I just think it looks better to be holding the can upright by your fingertips when you do the restoration. if you still don't understand my previous question then I suggest you go study the way blaine did it on his vertigo special and try to replicate it move by move......then you'll get what I'm saying. one more thing HOW THE HELL DOES HE MANAGE TO GIVE THE CAN OUT TO THE COUPLE IN THE PARK WHILE THE CAN IS STILL FULL?!?!?! answer me that and ill show you a....(insert an interesting and/or unlikely object here).... laters |

I'll dig out the tape and see, I cant see he would switch it, he either must set it up a diffrent way or it is another one of his informous camera tricks. Matt

A little bit of name dropping: I know somebody that is/was married to somebody (who is a magician) named Tim Ellis.
Well, I haven't gotten around to performing it. But I will VERY soon. |
