Hi there Café members!

I launched a month ago a few magic apps on Apple & Google stores.

I’d like to introduce in this thread the app called “My Imaginary friend”.

EFFECT:
Briefly, the spectator describes an imaginary friend: He gives it a Gender; a Name and a Job.
Without looking at the phone screen, the magician reveals all three pieces of information!

The complete description ; videos and links to the stores can be found below:

English page: http://ho-creative.com/my-imaginary-friend-magic-app-phone/
French page: http://ho-creative.com/fr/mon-ami-imagin......lephone/
Spanish page: http://ho-creative.com/es/mi-amigo-imagi......elefono/

It would be a great pleasure to receive reviews, feedbacks and suggestions from you guys!

I hope you’ll like it!

Magical Regards.

I have just downloaded this app, first impressions are extremely good. I haven't even finished the full method yet but it is a genius way to do it. I cannot wait to perfect and have fun with this app. Well done

I was cautious about purchasing this app, but then proceeded.

Now that I have it, I'm happy with the method. It's a well designed app, and a lot of work has gone into the text and video explanations.

Thumbs up.

I also decided to buy this app. The principal behind this app is solid. If I may add one more feature into it-- I just need it to be able to customized the words on the list.

Great app!

Imaginary Friend
This was by far my favorite. I can see myself using this one the next time I go out. The method is genius, albeit somewhat limited. (In the teaser video, the limited nature of the "3rd envelope" is not accurately displayed and gives a somewhat false idea as to how that portion of the trick works)
This trick requires a bit of audience management when you first begin. The method is not difficult to learn, but at a fast pace could be quite daunting in the beginning. Once you are able to get up to full speed, I can see this effect as being completely mind boggling.
The app itself is very nicely designed. Professional, bright and fun. This is the only app that the secret is not on the front page, but is still not that hidden. Especially, since all it takes is for the user to accidentally hit 'options" instead of "start" to see it.
The "occupations" are quite limited, but it makes sense as the screen only has a certain amount of space, so these limitations don't seem out of place. The method for determining a girl seems to stand out to me like a sore thumb, but I won't know how it works in a real life situation until I try the app myself.
This effect could be performed by anyone after completing the tutorial, and with a little practice could become a regular part of your repertoire.
I'd pay the $3 for this app.

Full Review of My Imaginary Friends:

Effect: You hand your device to someone and they come up with an imaginary friend. The input their sex, name, and select one adjective about them. The magician then says the spectators sex, name, and adjective they chose.

Ad Accuracy:
Leaves out a small part that is required (not saying to avoid revealing)
Besides that it is accurate.

Effect thoughts:
Cool trick, original
Maybe a bit awkward to use in performance, should be able to overcome though

Method:
I was pleasantly surprised.
It seemed very fair and easy.
It is clever.
You never look at the screen, just a little bit of thinking.
Need a little bit of audience management
Method flaws:
Not the hardest thing for the spectator to find the method, but unlikely they will with audience management

Instructions/App Design:
Very detailed explanation in video and text with images.
The app is set up nicely, very smooth.
I personally hate the sounds, but why would you have the sounds on anyways? Not really an issue.

Extras:
None present

Ideas:
A lot of customization is possible with this, lots of potential for future updates.

Impact:
I had someone guess the method the second time I performed this. It was slightly my performing fault.
When done correctly packs a large punch.

Overall:
Very simple and effective.
Packs a punch.
Very nice a fluid app.
Well worth $3, he could easily get $5 in my opinion.

Unlike, NUMERALIA, there is no live performance...
I get very nervous if an uncut performance is not provided. It reminds me of the old magic catalogs where each effect sounded like a miracle in the description and what you got was not worthwhile Smile

Please include a live uncut demo ?
Thx !

It's $3 and is getting good reviews. It's not that much of a risk to take a punt based on the description. It's a clever method if you like this type of thing.

You are right $3 is not much to risk...But, I also do not understand why an uncut performance is a problem either ?
I don't think that is too much to ask ?

Why is the spectator entering it in your phone?

You never look or touch the phone at any point.

That's not the point. From the spectator's point of view, why does the spectator have to enter it in the phone?

Hey Zach:

Thank you for your interest in the app.

When a mentalist asks the spectator to enter any information on any support, there has to be a motivation behind it, and you're right to ask about it.

The answer is very similar to when you use a piece of paper and ask the spec to write his thoughts down: You have to sell it in some way!

Classical lines would be:

"In a minute, you'll have to describe an imaginary friend on the phone, later, we'll check ON THE PHONE what you entered in case you forget anything"

"I need you to write things down to amplify your thoughts, so I can receive them mentally. Now I don't have a paper nor a pen on me, but I do have an app that will help!"

"You're gonna describe an imaginary friend for me, and you'll have to chose some adjectives from a list. The list will be displayed on my phone screen."

Etc..

People ask me "How did you do that?" right after the performance, and never "Yeah but why do we need the phone?".
This is enough proof for me that good presentation prevents suspicion.

Hope that helps.

Regards.

The concept behind the app is solid

App definitely requires some "dressing up" performance wise by the magician. If I were a spectator, I would definitely be asking, "What is this app on his phone?" There's no real way to explain it as a legitimate, organic, non-magic thing on your phone.

I don't think it's being marketed as such, in fairness.

As noted earlier, the concept is very solid.

But this is clearly more of a game like, magicky effect.

Perhaps if the name is not revealed immediately, or even focused on... Maybe you can "hold onto" it and use a timing delay to reveal at some other point.

Hi everyone:

Almost a year ago, I released the “MY IMAGINARY FRIEND” magic app and was gladly surprised by the reviews.
One year later, I decided to inject the most requested features that kind members suggested through private messages; here they are:

- You can now make the secret even more undetectable!
- You can now customize the secret to fit more your style!
- The secret and all settings are now password protected!
- There's now a demonstration video of the effect available within the app!
- There's now a shorter explanation video available within the app.
- The looping sound in the menu lasts a few seconds only.

Don't forget to rate the app to show your support!

Thank you again for the support and bright ideas.

PS: I intend to raise the app price soon, little heads up for MC members Smile
