My all time favorite packet trick is the 8 card biddle trick. It is impromtu and extremely easy to preform. I always get fantastic reactions from it, and I have had people flip out and second guess their vision, becuase they are convinced that it is impossible. If you are interested a simple search on YouTube should give you an example of the performance. If you know of any other great 8 card packet tricks, let me know, becuase I always carry 8 cards in my wallet to perform this trick and would love to have another one to add to it.
Thanks, MagicBurks |

You could add a card and do a 9 card lie detector trick or remove some cards and perform Dr Daleys type effect which always goes down well.

John Bannon's Duplicity. Better than Twisted Sisters in that it is fully examinable at the end, which is a must for me.

Thanks frankinator, wasn't sure wether to get duplicity or twisted sisters. I am fairly new to cards (not quite a beginner anymore). does duplicity require strong and firm knowledge or sleight of hands?

O.
Duplicity only requires a counting slight that's extremely common and is taught on the DVD. This is a small trick that packs a surprisingly big punch. sam

You could technically perform Duplicity without sleight of hand, but performing that one false count makes the trick much stronger in my opinion. It's very easy to learn the sleight, and it's an essential move for countless other packet tricks.

I think the Biddle transposition/vanish is better done in conjunction with a full deck. A couple of examples might be:
WOW Revisited in John Luka's book "Uncovered" Like Clockwork in my new book "OOPS Just Cards" Another related effect that doesn't even use the Biddle and involves two selections might be Marlo's "Devilish Miracle". The initial effect mentioned and shown on Youtube (and very often explained)is a neat little trick, but maybe making one packet of four change places with another packet of four one at a time might be stronger. Plenty of effects like that come to mind. Rick mentioned Jazz Aces and there are quite a few versions of that around, that was a good suggestion. Vernon and Cervon's "Devil's Elevator" is another gem which you could do before going into the Biddle trick, though you couldn't do that and Jazz Aces. Due to the amount of exposure all over the web I'm sure a youtube search will lead you to someone explaining them. Warren suggested adding a ninth card so you could do a lie detector routine based on Jim Steinmyer's Nine Card Problem. That card could be left in the wallet until needed. Why use another card? You could do Aldo Colombini's "Nine Lives of a Cat" name the experiment then say because of the nine lives you need a ninth card. It's a packet Triumph routine that can be found on one of his DVD's called "Down and Dirty" (all packet tricks). So, here's a routine. Devil's Elevator or Jazz Aces 8 Card Biddle Trick Nine Lives of a Cat - card added Nine card Problem (lie detector version) You've easily got ten minutes there. Maybe you can introduce the cards as your discount deck. |

Love Yannick Chretien's "Re-Flipped" but as re-handled and performed as, "The World's Fastest Card Trick" that I once came across from Caleb Wile.
Very nice effect, something I've been playing with to great on-the-spot amazement for quite a while now. If you're not careful, it can make a half-decent coin guy, look like a pretty darn good card man at times.

There's an "oil and water" type effect in volume 2 of Apocalypse that is really nice. I actually only do the final phase of it, which I think was a stand-alone effect in volume 1. If you have volume 2 I can look up the title for you. Very clean and very simple, I found it a quite ingenious use of the EC.
Using some of the cards, you could do something like "The Pinochle Trick" from Nick Trost or Bro. John Hamman. Trost's version does need a deck to end clean (elevator type trick climax, but it's not absolutely necessary - it is nicer though). |

You might want to check out the multi-phase routine titled Heir to the Throne which can be found in Kort: The Magic of Milt Kort, published by Hermetic Press and written by Stephen Minch. The routine is a series of individual tricks tied together with transpositions as the central theme. It's really an excellent routine and a find example of Kort's thinking.

Which tree outside is "best?"
I won't say this is best, as I don't believe in these types of absolutes, but let me suggest a very interesting effect that plays exceptionally well. Nick Trost - Subtle Card Creations Volume 4, "8 Card Lie Speller". |
