You can indeed start just as I show in the video, if I had someone here at the time I could have done the Split and it works just fine.
It's all about understanding what you are working with, ,the gimmick is that simple it's not difficult to understand how it works. You will also find it gives a little after you have used it a few times which will help also. There is no need for extra card etc, this works just fine a supplied.

While It appears you can get the bill to "flap" you have to move your arm a bit to get that effect. if you watch the video accusing them of it being false, there is no movement of the arm. It is moving under it's own weight and gravity which doesn't seem possible because... physics.

I do find the effect a little quirky and not complete reliable in the following way. To me the strongest effect starts with the non-bills, either the receipt or the split cash. Because they are contrasting colors, they look the most startling but are the most prone to flashing as the gimmick doesn't always snap closed in perfect alignment and a flash is visible at the top. This gets worse over time as the Tyvek breaks in and flexes a little at the hinge. I also think this is more prominent with American bills which are long and narrow and flexible rather than stiff paper. I feel,to keep the gimmick fresh you would have to make a new one more often than I'd prefer. The visibility of the e&&&tic is less of an issue to me

I truly believe you are over thinking things waaaaayyyyyy to much. Because of how you are thinking things through in the way you do is exactly why laymen WILL want to examine things etc. How do I know cause its exactly what I used to do. That was until I listened to people who were trying to help me all along, but I just wouldnt believe and accept it. Until I took that leap I was always going to fail. I will try one more time to try to let you see where you are going wrong.... Remember I aint trying to poke fun or be condescending ..... You said you are trying to avoid spectators "suspecting things" or have there "own theory"... newsflash for you BUD.... Real magic does not exist. Some specs will always try and figure it out, some just wont care. Most specs know what you just did is not REALLY magic. Dependent upon the type of person the spec has, they will, broadly speaking, fall somewhere within the following 3 areas....... Someone who wants to bust you (there are ways to deal with them), people who love it and try to figure it out, but at the same time will love or at least appreciate the "mystery" you just showed them OR be the type of person who believes in magic or more likely loves getting lost in the moment and believe in magic. I am a working magician. A large majority of tricks I see I either know how it is done or can make an educated guess at it. So why do I love watching other magicians? Why do I love watching well preformed magic? Why when I know at some point the magician must have done this or that? Going with your theory that should be impossible. Take an extreme example..... DO you really believe a man can saw a woman in half, show the two "separate halves", put them back together and tada everything is back to normal. Of course you don't and neither do 99.999999% of those who just watched it. Some will theorise and come up with there ideas on how it was done and others wont care and just loved it. Or a simple example the "cross card cut force". If done badly specs will suss it a large percentage of the time. Yet when performed well it flies past the cast majority. Why? Cause the magician gives you little or no reason to disbelief what apparently happened, why? Aside from the T*me M**d**ct***, the magician believes it. Going with your theory the layman shouldn't be fooled with it very often, but they do.... when performed well. Indeed, that very force was one of the things that finally proved my problem was me and how I was thinking. I thought I would get caught I had tried it with family and friends and got burned, badly. A local magician, who was trying to help me had been trying to convince me for ages about where I was going wrong.... I don't know why he never gave up on me lol... eventually showed me by deed...... I went to one of his restaurant gigs and I watched in disbelief him using that very basic force, instead of his usual cl****c !@#$*s or one of the other fancy, advanced forces he uses. He never got called all night and I listened to the specs, I never heard a single one mention it after he left the table. Yeah some theorised, some didn't care, they just enjoyed it. When mingling and chatting at end of night doing some other tricks he introduced me as a "Derren Brown" type magician and I could read people. I didn't know it was coming. He quickly pulled me aside and told me to simply do the CCF, talk about that I was going to get them to look at the card, not to show anyone it, and then I was going to read their mind and tell them there card yada yada yada. "just ham it up and act like Derren". I did...... It flew by everyone there. I did the same thing three times that night with three different specs within the same group. It flew past them each time. Why? Cause I didn't think about them catching me out, on the back of seeing it work earlier. Lastly..... where you show your hand and highlight the problem.... "I think your scenario is not optimal. Even though people won't tell you that, I do believe it's not difficult for layman to suppose that in your pocket you have a duplicate. Reaching your pocket is the worst thing to do, and I never do a switch in this way." I get paid to do magic..... Through experience I KNOW it works. I have NEVER been called on it. But, you automatically believe the layman would know. Why don't they? Cause of practising the timing of everything, the non-chalant way I give them the dupe, I believe it isn't a dupe (even though I know it is)and give them zero reason to be suspicious. Hahahahaha, going with how you are thinking about things, why do you believe they wouldnt suspect a switch using a wallet any more or less than switching it in a pocket. I have seen a wallet switch, a very legitimate way to do a switch (i use a switch for a serial number divination) done many times. I have seen it done where it was so badly performed OR because there was "no reason" for the wallet to be getting used OR because the magician transmitted what he was doing with his body language, that it was OBVIOUS what had happened. I have also seen it done so well that it flew past everyone watching. Because it was done naturally and the magician gave no reason to suspect. Anyway, this is way longer than I intended, and is the wrong place to discuss. Maybe it will help you understand and maybe help you get past it. Maybe it wont. In either case, good luck with your magic. |

Can post production techniques in itself leave "suspicious anomalies"? Sure can. Could RAT's video itself have been "doctored"? I don't know, could have been, might not have been. Are people naive enough to believe that advertising films wont be made to look as best as they possibly can? Yes I believe so. Does the product do what is says it can, trailer doctoring / post production techniques or not? Yes it sure can. Many are doing so. Has there been a deliberate deception been carried out to defraud? I don't think so because a. the product does what they claim it can. b. and interestingly here is the bit RAT and co forget to mention.... Why, if they went to all that trouble to deceive did they leave in the "bad flashes". Curious that. Why go to all that trouble to "doctor small things" when they left the obvious ones??? Oooppppps sorry that last part wont fit the conspiracy theory.... shame!!!! |

Exactly . Jean Luc Bertrand has a professional production company , same one that did David stones DVDs . Of course there is going to be post production editing. This trick does everything it says on the tin , and it is not Intentionally misleading.

You do get a little bit of elasticity, but not as much as the trailer - it was literally flopping in half comfortably (without shaking it to prove its a bit floppy - suspended by the you know what), straightened out then snapped perfectly for the reveal. |

That's great, thanks Mark for the clarification. I agree this is still a great effect and thanks for making the additional video.
