Bill Citino and Steven Keyl's reviews hit the nail on the head. The passion that Nicolas has for all things Faro is infectious. If you are like me, have developed a dependable in and out Faro, and are looking for one piece of work to unleash your faro shuffle on the world this is it. Nicolas teaches the principles and effects very well. Scripting is provided in an easily read format (italicised text for scripting, a great approach.)
As have already been mentioned the correction strategies for 25/27 27/25 cut misses are wonderful. "You find it", "Otero Sandwich revisited" and the section utilising the Free Cut/Faro section is well as Nicolas puts it; "free cut + faro = little miracle " Again it should be pointed out that the faro itself is not taught. What are taught are killer routines and effects that are very strong and, beyond the ability to do a faro, there are no difficult sleights. Thank you Nicolas, I can't wait for volume 2 (and 3) If it's Faro and Matts Kjellstrom likes it = purchase. G |

Just had a first read through of my 'prize'
There are certainly some things here that are new to me. Getting a selected card to any specified position in the deck with just one shuffle was a very interesting discovery. This is something that must have far reaching benefits for as yet unexplored effects.

So here is the next trivia this time the prize will be an ebook plus a lil surprise
1) what is penelope and where it was first published and by whom? 2) we all know that with 8 out faros the deck goes back to the original order, then Some magicians work for diferent combination of in out shuffles to put any card at top or at a desired positiom but here is my question. what is the combination of faros you need to reverse the entire order of the deck as if you were dealing one by one onto the table?

1) The Penelope principle allows you to know how many cards have been cut from a deck by using a key card and an out faro shuffle. (I don't want to be anymore specific than that as it's not my, or anyone else's, place to reveal Mr Elmsley's published discovery on a public forum)
The Penelope principle is the discovery of Alex Elmsely. In The Complete Works of Alex Elmsley Vol 2 (1994) the date that the Penelope Principle was first published is given as being 1988. However in 1977 the book "Faro Concepts" by Murray Bonfeld features several effects that utilise the Penelope principle including some contributed by Alex Elmsley. I don't have that book to see if the principle is explained in full or simply utilised but I assume it must appear in this book in some form.. 2) 26 in-faros will reverse a deck's order.

Is Sealegs allowed to enter the contest a second time?
I was going to guess this one for Penelope. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472160/ I think that question was too vague, it could have been referring to anything.... |

The effect in your book that utilises the Penelope Principle is outstanding Nicolas. Bravo.

I already answered this in a PM around 6 days ago. I rephrased it to avoid blatant exposure.
1- Penelope principle is a card positioning principle that can be used to relocate a specific card to a certain location or to divine a secret number cut off from the bottom of the deck (technically doing both at the same time). A single Faro shuffle will take care of all the details. Any more details would be exposure. I believe this was discovered by Alex Elmsley and documented in his Collected Works (though it may have been published by him earlier). 2- 26 in-faros will reverse the full deck Enjoy! |
