A new release from Nefesch.
This does look very clean! Description: The value of a coincidence depends on its degree of improbability! A demonstration of intuition and impossible coincidences. OPUS is a straight forward close up effect, where you will give to your spectator a visual proof of an impossible coincidence. Four black backed cards are introduced, these cards are given to a spectator who is instructed to mix them freely without looking at the face of the cards; this gives him the chance to put those cards in any order out of 24 possibilities. The spectator is now asked to decide the orientation of each card; having the chance to either turn some cards 180 degrees or not; he has now 16 more possibilities! The spectator is now invited to freely select the position in which those cards are to be placed on the table to form a square; he is given more options and possibilities. After all the decisions that the spectator has freely taken; and all the possibilities given; now it is time to turn the cards over. When the black cards are turned over, the spectator realizes that out of all the possibilities that he had; he ended up with the only possibility that makes the 4 pieces shape perfectly the Mona Lisa puzzle that was printed on the face of the cards. OPUS is also a PREDICTION effect. A Fifth card is included for you to use it as a prediction. You don't need to carry or hide many outs. This fifth card is YOUR ONLY OUT. And it will ALWAYS BE A PERFECT ACCURATE PREDICTION. Info: http://www.murphysmagic.com/Product.aspx?id=57165 Bests, MP |

Nobody here should EVER buy anything from Nefesch.

Magician Thinking here, I guess, but... Doesn't the fact that the performer turns over the cards cancel out many of the so-called free choices made by the spec? Wouldn't this be obvious?

Well, as we like to point out around here, it's not real magic... So, we know there has got to be procedural limitations. I wish there were a complete performance so one could decide whether or not it's deceptive. I'm asking this as someone who loves the plot, and would be interested in buying if it's up to snuff. I've played around with a similar routine from The Boris Pocus(!) dvd that utilized his p-clipped principle, and the mixing up of the quarters is pretty darn fair.
BTW, the reason people are wary about this and are saying 'never again', is because of the HUG debacle. You'll find plenty about it here. |

However, having said that, I do see many of their points. As I see it, the primary complaint over Hug was hype over an undisclosed effect, with no video whatsoever. Many felt ripped off, having pre-ordered it. To that point, I would say that with this release (i.e. Opus) we can see and know what the effect is before hand. So, I don't think the two releases compare in any way. Bit like comparing Apples with Oranges, or as we say here in the UK, like Chalk and Cheese. Be wary of pre-ordering something based just on reputation/hype. The gaming industry can get away with it (just look at the Call of Duty franchise, which continues to break pre-order records based on reputation alone), but not the magic business. |

The spectator really takes all the decisions, the handle is so smooth and fair. The spectator is even asked if he wanted to make any change or switch right before the cards are turned over; whatever his choice be, it will always be a perfect match. Opus is very deceptive. And imho it is also a fooler. |

So the spectator can always turn over the cards at the end? Also, I assume this basically has two endings (based on choices made by the spectator). one of which is a prediction, right?

Tally_NSA and others here that don't know, see here:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218 And as far as both M Pitcher and nicacus go, they are both friends of Nefesch, so take their word if you want to. Nicacus makes 8 posts in 13 years, and 2 of them support this thing. The friends come out of the woodwork any time a new effect is released. Maybe this is good- I don't know. I still would never support Nefesch. I will come on these forums until the day that I die and warn people about my pal Nef. He's garbage to me. "Hug" caused some serious problems in my marriage, and I'm not kidding. My wife was VERY UPSET that I paid $50 for that garbage.

Lighten up, Tally- I did see where you said you read all 26 pages, OK? I guess that I didn't choose my words carefully enough.
Just like I said "my pal Nef". He's obviously not my pal. I was just making the thread available to everyone that doesn't know so that they don't have to go through the trouble of searching. I should have left your name out of my statement.

It's unfair to continually judge someone because of one bad trick. The biggest problem with Hug was the hype that professionals created about it. Many pros loved the effect. Was it over priced? Heck yes. Was it over hyped? Heck yes. But it's all okay.
People learn from their mistakes and grow from their past. I know I sure have. |

Sorry, but it's not unfair.
It was a scam from the start. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't get fooled again.

I just don't care what anyone says about it.
We all have the right to feel however we want, and that's how I feel. I am holding him responsible for something that DID happen. It happened to me. I have to wait to be fooled again? Sorry, but that won't happen.
