You should check out a Bannon sleight called Creased Lightening. It's not quite as fast as the Mercury Fold but it's totally silent and you can do it even if you're being burned. It's a great move.

About the Bannon Fold, the last move never seems to fold evenly for me. Any advice?

Creased Lightening can be found in his book Impossibilia. It is a very good card fold. I also believe that he has a version of the fold in his Smoke and Mirrors book. They are both great books and they have really good applications for the card fold. If you don't like the fold then the mercury fold can be substituted in the effects.

I was wondering, I first learned this fold on Jay Sankey's Paperclipped. In this video Jay teaches the move to fold the card in full view. I have noticed on a few other effects that magicians do this behind their backs. I was curious how you all do this move?

While no one is looking. Usually when my hand is dropping down to my side.

I'm curious, how do you perform a 'Mercury Card Fold' while your hands are by your side?

The Mercury Card Fold is by far the best fold...If you are doing this correctly, you can fold the card under the deck easily even while the deck is being burned by the spectator. I don't think this has ever failed me....and the applications are only limited to your imagination....once the card is folded..no matter where you produce it the reactions are going to be impressive.

The last fold of the mercury fold can be done with just one hand. But to start it takes two hands and the deck.
I must also agree that this fold is awesome. Just find your speed. Sankey does the fold VERY fast....that is not necessary, just fold patiently at your comfortable speed but never look at your hands. Instead, ask a question as you begin and complete the fold. I suggest buying a handful of cheap decks or get used ones from casinos to practice with. Happy folding

I personnaly don't use the Mercury fold. I palm the card, give the spectator the deck for a shuffle and fold the card while rolling up my sleeves. Nevertheless the Mercury fold is quite effective.

I do the MCF after the trick is over and the audience are relaxed and, hopefully, applauding. I also do it with my hand by my side or behind a chair of someone at the table as my other hand puts the deck away.

There's an interesting one handed card fold in 'The Book, or Don't Forget to Point' (Flicking Fingers)... I think it's explained during 'bombshell' (Manuel Muerte)... Check it out.

It is often forgotten that there are TWO Mercury Card Folds described in Expert Card Technique. One of them is done under the deck; the other is a one-handed version.

Carl Andrews also shows the Mercury Card fold in his effect Deja Vu, which is sort of a combination of two Jay Sankey tricks: Paperclipped and Back in Time. Carl does the fold following a joke, on the off-beat when the trick is apparently over. This effect provides a great way to build your confidence when doing the fold in public, since if you feel you are really being studied carefully you could end the effect without doing the card fold, and still have a good trick.
