I'm trying to find thumbcuffs with a release switch on them. I bought a pair from Amazon, and the decscriptions are all vague in that they do not specify if they have the release or not. When they arived in my mailbox, they did not. Waste of money.
I don't know where else to look. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

Hi--I have such a pair of TCs at home...I'll check tonight. (They are a Jap/Taiwan knock-off brand).
I think such a pair is illustrated & mentioned in one of the John Novak "Art of Escape!" booklets. Seems SILLY to have a "release button" on a pair of TCs, because TCs are so easy to get out of. However, for the novice escapist who is practicing a TC escape for the first time....they can provide 'peace of mind'. |

Hi Moxahalla!
If I get time tomorrow, I'll go out to my storage facility, and check John Novak's booklets. Regarding TCs being so easy to get out of: Yes!!! I'm certainly not an expert in escapology, but, I have done a school assembly program (20 years ago!) when Dick Xavier canceled his contract with National School Assemblies, at the 'last minute". --It was a successful tour, and, the schools were pleased. I found myself wondering why I had spent so many years, shoving silks into gimmicks, and loading doves, etc.! I opened with part of my magic program, and then used gaffed Hamburg Eights, a pair of Smith & Wesson "jumpers", UNgaffed Thumb C's, and, an an Abbott Strait Jacket. (I DID "throw in" a bit of SHOWMANSHIP!) I carried along a Prynce Wheeler "Siberian Chain", and an Abbott chain loop cuffs as a back up, but, never needed them. I think your thoughts about the ease of getting out of TCs, compares well with St. Jackets!!! I learned quickly, how important it was to make it look difficult!

Hello Dick & Doug:
Yes, the thumbcuff with "release button" is indeed mentioned in the Novak booklet covering Handcuff Escapes/"The Handcuff Act". Dick--Nice to hear that your school audience was so receptive to your Escape routines! |
