So if one has an Android phone, is this even worth buying? Do I need the app for it to work at all or just for the "any thought of song" bit?

Hey guys,
I will be getting this tomorrow evening and will play around with it. I have bought the app the other day, and just read through the instructions and can see the possibilities. I will report back more by Monday. Alex

There's probably more that can be done with it, but I haven't worked with it so I don't know yet. There are multiple presentations taught in the video to cover the song predictions. There are also other ways to use Decibel instead of using it to have a song play. There's a chapter in the videos where Ramsay and Wilber have a bit of a discussion over other ways they use the device to create presentations. Ramsay has a way to do a card reveal that is elaborated upon for other information, and I honestly think it's the more powerful of the presentations given in the video. This is a utility gimmick, not restricted to any single routine.

So to be clear, if I have an Android phone, I cannot do the presentation in the video where the magician makes a thought of song play through the borrowed earbuds, either solo or with an accomplice?

If my thinking is correct on this, you can do this with an accomplice if you are using Android.
I can argue that if you use Android, you can do this solo as well and I feel (given the current feedback of the ios app) it is even more flexible and versatile (but will require more a bit more work). Actually, the "decibel app" (from what I gather) is already part of the current Android os and further tweaks will make it even more adaptable and in my opinion more powerful than the ios app. And if you absolutely need a dedicated app, I am sure Supa Thump and/or Inject will work beautifully (albeit differently) and will require some extra tweaking. |

There's multiple ways to go about... if you want them to name any song at random and have it play, you will need an accomplice and that works on iOS or Android. The iOS app can accomplish this as well, but the input methods arent totally reliable or there are some extra steps involved. If you are performing solo, you can always force a song. Or if you have Android, I tipped a method to have a freely selected song play with no force earlier in this thread. |

I don't have the effect... Yet! But having an understanding of how it works and how to show the actual jack when the song is playing is a possibility

You can't show the jack while the song is playing

Not that it really matters however one could use a dupe or severed one. That way you can show your fingers away from
the jack completly. Pinching the cord between your fingers displaying the hanging lead/jack would naturally give a great solution/illusion. I'm not sure if it really matters. You could bring out so many big guns with this. The same idea could be employed by using a hold out. Perhaps a little over-sauced but just goes to show you the answer is always in the question |

Sorry if this has been discussed. But I don't want to read through all of the non important filler....but does anyone have any noise issue with the on off button? Mine clicks really loud with every press. For the person with the headphones in no big deal, but for surrounding specs it can be heard.
Any ideas? |

How loud is loud? I any imagine it's loud enough to be heard over general background noise, or is it?

It's a very soft muffled click that you the performer can feel as necessary tactile feedback and your patter should and will easily cover this. There should never be dead silence in a room when you activate. It is not loud. It is a teeny muffled click. Let's also be clear: this is not the "on off button" - it is the "play/pause" button. So - there is or should be no problem. My only personal critique is that the play/pause might have been better located at the end of the gimmick near the tip rather than where it is now.

I don't have it, but by reading through this thread, one of the bigger complaints is that you can't show the plug while the music is playing.
In my mind, it would be the icing on the cake to show the un-plugged end, while the music is playing. There is the argument that people are too amazed by their favorite song coming out of the speakers, so they aren't concerned about whether it's plugged in somewhere or not. This may be true. But people aren't stupid. They may not understand how the music is being played, but people do understand that headphones MUST BE PLUGGED IN in order to play music. Since the plug is hidden from view, it is logical to assume it is plugged into something. Unless there is a step in the method where you are actively dis-proving that assumption before they form it. Otherwise, the act of hiding the plug is really increasing the chances of people realizing what is going on. I contacted Adam yesterday, with an idea to use the last few inches of a pair of headphones as a "false end" to the cord, and just let it hang in view while the music is playing. It's only a few inches (or less) of cord, easily ditched, and would really amp up the effect (no pun intended). It would add the aspect of: "an electric device is operating without electricity", in addition to: "my music is being played through an un-plugged set of headphones". Tom Phoenix |

To me it wouldn't make sense to show the plug anyway.
Holding the jack in between your fingers is perfectly justified in the "connection" your making with your spectator...That is harnessing, in turn, the connection they have to the song they choose. Sure you could add extra bits and pieces of convincers, on your own, if your really worried about it but I think its overkill. Especially since you show your hands perfectly clean before. And you later drop the jack in their hands after the effect...and can show your own hands empty pretty fairly after that. |

I agree that the hands empty before and after are convinces enough. Adding a severed plug end makes ending clean harder unless it's on a pull, but that just seems like overkill

No, it doesn't seem like overkill...yes you may show your hands empty but specs can just as easily presume that you quickly dived into your pocket for a small Mp3 or something of that kind.... The fact that if you have some small inches of another headphone unplugged on display, shows clearly to the spec that your hands are still empty and that the headphones aren't plugged In anything

Showing any kind of "plug" to me would make zero sense. It's plugged into the performers fingers. It's magic.
Your hands are shown openly and seen empty. Done. Music comes out of the headset through no visible means. Done. All the rest is magicians thinking. Whether heat is on the hands or fingers after - maybe. A lot will be up to the performers skill and not looking like they swallowed a cat. But showing any kind of plug etc would not be icing on the cake - but rather too much sugar in the icing that will spoil a nice cake.
