Does anyone know, if the urania shell is still fabricated anywhere in the world?
How much did it cost at the time, when it was developed? Thanks for all answers, Chris

That would be the "Durania" shell, and I believe it is still available from Stevens Magic Emporium , along with two matching balls and one of a contrasting color for around $80.

Uh-oh, I hope, Steve ’n Company won’t kick me out of this forum for telling you this ...
The Durania shell was made popular by Richard Ross and as far as I know, he used it during one of his two FISM winning acts. It’s a double shell, one shell inside the other, and it sort of works like a pacman. (??) You can use a ball of a different color, close the shell and thus show it from both sides. It’s an extremely strong effect. Just put two regular shells into each other and you’ll see how it works. Hope this helps, Chris As for the making of the shell, yesterday, I found out that a friend of mine (well, I’m 20 and he’s about 60) is the one, who produced it for Richard Ross himself and was the one European trader with this item. However, he’s stopped the production because it’s extemely difficult to make such shells in non-trash versions at reasonable costs.

The newer version of the Durania ball is called X-Ball by Panky. Just does not have a permanent hinge, their reasoning is that if dropped, it will just fall apart, thus causing less damage to it. Supplied in read and white color.
They also have created holders and droppers for this unique tool as well. |

The hinging was always problematic with the Durania shells. When we manufactured them for Stevens, our rejection rate was very high!
