I am exploring a show focusing on the con man side of magic, and I am trying to get an idea of who does or has done that type of character and show. I know Harry Anderson is probably the most well known at it, Pop Haydn and Simon Lovell had some incorporated, but hoping to get more names of more prominent magicians who've done this type of character. I thank you in advance for any assistance!

Pop has a good site - Scoundrels.
I like Ricky Jay best, me being a card guy.

Pop Haydn is NOT a con man. He is a man of science and medicine, and an entertainer and vaudevillian. He gets mad when people talk about the Gold Rush, Doc Baggs, Soapy Smith and all that. That is all in the distant past. He has been an upstanding citizen for the eleven years he has been here in the 21st Century. In his impetuous fifties he made some mistakes--like many youth--and was involved with some people that weren't the best of company. But he doesn't think that should be held against him.
My friend Nicholas is Australia's "Honest Con Man": http://www.conman.com.au/ R. Paul Wilson is a a con man expert. Apollo Robbins is a con man style performer. What is it that you are looking for? |

Check out Daryl's tape on the 3 card monte. At the same time he does magic; he also has hints on how to get the "moolah". BUT, it's all in fun! I also like Bob Sheets' 3 shell game, where there's faux-betting... and he adds "It's OK, we're just playin' for love." ps I heard that Pop Haydn discovered the principle of magnitized water.. so there! R. Paul Wilson is probably one of the best experts on cons that I know of.

ALEXANDER "The man who knows", was in the "big con" category! His real name was CONLIN. He made MILLIONS! Check him out on Google!
HANNUSEN (spelling ?) was Adolf Hitler's "fortune teller". He was "high up" in the Nazi Party, and, another "big con". He was a violent anti-Semite. He was finally "executed" by high ranking Nazi officers.

Chung Ling Soo springs to mind not that I regard him as a conman.
