Kissdadookie,
I hear you. I'm not saying I NEED any more justification. I'm saying I WANT more justification for a casual setting. When you are sitting around with friends and someone says "Hey, do a trick", I don't pull out a "prop". I pull out coin(s), use some napkins, business cards, paper and pen, borrowed cards, etc. This would be a beautiful impromptu effect if there was "better" justification for an impromptu setting. It's ok, I have created my evolution of this idea that gives me the justification I'm looking for. KJ |

Did I miss it? IT is a terrific routine and very well made props. Michael

For those of you carrying this in your wallets now, do you use the envelope? Or just have it folded up in your wallet bare? This is going next to my Powerball 60... I like that combo.

Nathan,
If I plan on performing, I keep all three in my shirt pocket. I take it out and do the performance. It then goes back in my pocket. If someone wants to see it, or if I want to hand it out as a souvenir, I remove one of the other two and give it to them to keep. I also keep one in my wallet in a small envelope without the Cambridge card, for more impromptu performances. KJ |

Thanks guys.
And I'm still trying to decide about using the Cambridge card. I LOVE Peter's routine. The ego part of me still wants to make it more about me/magic to give that wonderment of, "what the?" so I'm playing with ideas combining both. Obviously you get that with the second part of his routine (All About Eve) but I want to move more towards "I" maybe made this happen, or predicted it, etc, for some kind of demonstration on "what if I did have these powers" or "what if I could force your ultimate choices" etc. I don't want to make it convoluted either. But darn the effect is slick and Peter's presentation is incredible. |

So where does that leave us? Focus on your spectator and audience because it's really about them providing them with an extraordinary experience. Also think about this, if you just wanted to demonstrate your power of influence, why even bother with using Will to Read? Use a napkin and just write down a prediction and do free will the old fashioned way. |

Great thoughts, I agree 100%. I should also clarify, I always keep the end result in mind with spectators. That's especially why I asked as it's about the experience, and I want them to feel awe, wonderment, etc from experiencing something profound (or as close to it with this particular effect).
Thanks for your thoughts... I might just be overthinking it. |

I was just working in some stuff to practice and get down more smoothly and it went like this: - Will to Read with the Nardi handling. - Zodiac sign guess. - Sticking spectator's fingers together. For Will to Read, they were really taken aback from the free will portion but then I drew the attention back to the random word on either side of the page they were asked to pick and remember in the beginning. Revealed the word and this really killed. Having them read the misspelled Cambridge card also produced a nice moment where they realized that they were able to read the card fine even though all the words where missing letters and what not. Went on to a Zodiac sign guess with the motivation being that from interacting with them, I now have a better sense of the kind of person they are. Ended with the sticking spectator's fingers together just for fun, at that point they were just completely freaked out. |

Nathan,
I think this lends itself to any number of angles. One way would be to say: "Clear your mind. I am going to read something to myself and I am going to try to place these thoughts into your head." Another ways is you could have them just look at the page as you say some random things: "I want you to just look at the first page. Don't bother even reading it, just look at it... I am going to try to control your mind as you listen to these words... flowers bloom in the spring, cows eat grass. Pickles taste great on Dodger dogs, etc." KJ |

A better way is to frame it as having the spec read your thoughts. Controlling their mind is equally as problematic IMHO. If you want to take the credit for the power to control their mind or inject thoughts, that's better pointed out when you summarize the events which have occurred. Still, this really takes away from making the spectator the star. It's to your benefit that your spec feels empowered and gets the spotlight. The rest of the audience will still credit you for the outcome of the effect even if you place the spotlight on your spectator. Think about the entire concept of performing. You're not trying to show off (that's something you do with your other performer friends) but instead to entertain and instill wonder. The best way to do this is to make them the star. You're the facilitator. |

Okay, so the first part of Peter's routine blew my wife's mind. She smiled in disbelief for a bit and loved it. The second part? She knows too much about me "reading thoughts and letters" and the techniques to reveal the word, and of course knew I knew it pretty quick so it wasn't as impressive, but I imagine it will play bigger for others of course. Love this thing...
Best part? It ticks off all the lists but most importantly powerful trick carried in the wallet ready to go. |

I have read through this whole thread, sounded real good, so I bought Will To Read. I sat through the pretty good instructions this evening, but I am confused at one point.
They included multiple two-sided pages with the kit, but my pages vary. I got two copies each of 109-110, 110-111, and 111-112. As I have compared them, you can perform either of the two effects with 110-111, but NOT with either of the other two sheets. These sheets were not referred to in the video, so I am wondering what they are for. Were they included by mistake? Are they decoys? Do they serve any purpose? Help me make sense of that part of the kit. Thanks, George |
