Allow me to add a touch of Arrested Development to that definition "Illusion, Michael. Tricks are something a *** does for money..."
One question seems to pertain to the Effect, another to the Method/Trick/Gaff, but what I believe has not been isolated is the concept of Plot. Take for instance the anti-gravity coin. In absence of Plot, the viewer may not understand what they perceive. Meaning, the context is missing for their brain to fill in the gap between sensory input and perception/belief/understanding/Effect. I have had people perceive the coin vanished from the bottom hand only to appear in the top hand; I have described the effect as the rewinding of time; and, I have presented it as a coin which jumps up because the other 10% of the 90% silver coin is rubber. As pointed by numerous sources, the variations in plot lines are rather limited. Thus, select your plot line, decide the effects that convey your intended plot, and then select whichever cheap *** will get you your candy. |

Enjoy For a reference to the how presentation changes effect - look at Al's version of the coin assembly - how he sets up the covers over the coins to build up the magic.

Make a list of the worthwhile tricks that can only be done with gaffs.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

He cared more about the experience of the audience than his own personal standards and practices. The point being that while the trick may be accomplished without a gimmick, it comes with certain sacrifice. Conversely, Ponta has beautiful methods which do not rely on a gimmick. But, I suppose you would also need to define if an extra coin is a "gimmick". Obviously, "worthwhile" is awfully subjective; so, for my appraisal: Cig thru Quarter/Half Fickle Nickel Coin through (glass) bottle I am sure there are others that are not springing to mind at the moment as the morning coffee is just now percolating. The list expands exponentially if we define extra coin as a gimmick. |

If you are not familiar with sleights I'd say JBBobo book. Also, I have to mention my fist book ever Shigeo Futagawa "Introduction to coin magic".

I suggest read Modern Coin Magic by JBBobo and get familiar with sleights. An infinite number of effects can be produced if you can just master the basic sleights. The number different effects you can do like vanish or reproduce a coin is really up to your own imagination.

God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.
