I have a piece of rope about 2' long. One end is attached to a reel. I assume you tie a knot in the rope, and it unties itself? If anybody can fill me in on how to do this, please let me know. The reel doesn't lock. Thanks,

It's explained in the Rice Encyclopedia of Silks Volume 2, but using a silk instead of a rope. Look it up so you don't have to ask someone to reveal the details on The Magic Café.

Hi Jim...
Paul Diamond, a "few" (!!!) years ago, started doing the Serpentine Silk with a rope instead of a silk. (A "hunk" of rope didn't get wrinkled in his pocket!) My Albenice book on reels is currently loaned out to a young lad whom I am mentoring. He is new, and eagerly "exploring" the possibilities" of performing tricks that "use" a reel. If you don't have access to the Rice Encyclopedia, PM me. I may have Roy Kissell's routine in my file.

Actually, Paul Diamond shows this in his video tutorial Reel Magic Volume 1 available from llepub.com.
http://llepub.com/index.php?main_page=pr......s_id=545 Paul has a single and double knot with a rope. It is tied, not untied, the magician unties it. |

I seen Paul Diamond in person at a lecture do this, and it was really spooky looking. The rope end traveled horizontally across his chest, tied into a knot and traveled to his left hand. He was a master with a reel.
If you want to do, what is referred to as the Serpent Silk with a rope, it is the same handling, tying a know in a silk or rope and it unties itself. |

I've never seen anyone do this sort of knot tying of Paul Diamond's and it sounds very interesting. As well as sounding spooky it also sounds like it might suit a comedic presentation too. I've looked for a video of someone performing this but can't find one but am tempted to get it from Bill's description of it.

This is the kind of effect where the performer must stand still so all attention is on the rope or silk. Moving will draw attention away from the effect happening.

Jim...I found my notes on Paul Diamond's routine with the rope.
I'll PM you!
