Hi there,
So, ... the date for next Mind Summit in 2017 – actually September 8-10, 2017 – is already in your diaries? Now, in this case we like to make some announcements about some significant modifications about the convention concept which we think makes Mind Summit not only unique and different from similar events but also even more valuable for our attendees. Plus corresponding suggestions are welcome! The major change for 2017 is the way of getting the actual contents of our convention. The common way of almost all convention producers in the world to do this is simply to ponder about names of potential presenters first and foremost and request them. The actual contents are then made up by the presenters in question on their own. Here we will go a different route. What we are going to do is to ponder about TOPICS first and foremost. Topics based on our conversations with former attendees. We asked them: "WHAT do you want to see? WHICH TOPIC is of interest for you? WHAT do you want to learn?" So we started actually rather with TOPICS and not with names. Only then we pondered about potential presenters for those contents. But even then 'names' were not our major goal. What we did was to think about and keep our ears open on the question, who the best, most knowledgable and most experienced presenters for a particular topic in question might be. This might be a well known and profiled performer in the business ... or it might be someone that you never heard of. There are many extremely knowledgable and experienced colleagues out there that never received the public appreciation that they actually deserve. So after all it is about contents and topics – and presenter-wise it might boil down to a mixture of both: big names and those of less public attention (if at all). However, we will try to get the best presenters possible to cover the topics in question! Now there is another major advantage of this approach: even if our attendees were always very happy with our presenters as such, we received some unsatisfied feedback content-wise from time to time. This was when attendees realized that they payed serious money for a convention only to get some contents that they already saw for a fraction of the cost on a DVD or in a Penguin lecture for example. The lecture in question as such might have been great ... but getting the same content again for a noticeable higher price at a convention was not that enjoyable for some – for reasons that are easy to understand or sympathize with. So as we approach our lecturers not for A (read: any) presentation but for covering a particular content at Mind Summit 2017 you will get specially tailored lectures from one of the most knowledgable and experienced presenters that we can find for the topics in questions! AND you know in advance whether or not the topic in question is interesting for your personal needs. Sure, overlaps with previous work of well known performers are unavoidable (as that might be the topic from which this performer might generated his renownedness from) but the differences of the lectures to what you already might have seen will be clear as day anyway. Sounds good? So we reveal some of the topics that we plan to be covered at next Mind Summit:
Some topics of this overview might change a bit ... but these days we start to approach those colleagues who we think are the best for these contents and/or who are recommended to us. So, stay tuned and block September 8-10 2017 in your diaries! And as far as topics or potential presenters for the listed topics are concerned - we're open for suggestions. Cheers Th. |

Content is always king. Sure some come for just the social aspect or as fans, but many come to learn, be educated, expand ideas and find useful content they can use in their performance and business operations. Great approach. Many such conventions I have been part of do this in addition to a specific theme each year which may be a possibility as well for you. Best of luck!

Looking at the topics, two names spring immediately to mind. Osterlind & Cassidy. That's all.

Pocket Management in the context of closup. I know that Looch writes about this in his Hamburg lectures and Alex Marsh writes about this in Headwired, but what I find hard to get is (1) how to develop a Close up set and then (2) in what order do you repeat your effects. (3) How many backup effects do you Need for an encore Performance...do you even do encore Performances in Close-up and if not (due to time contrstainst or whatever) ... how do you tell them? I'd like to see an example, maybe in some Kind of real Performance.
Maybe you could do something like you did last year, where you invited layman for the Show of Luke Jermay and set up a few tables and do that as a lecture where a Close up specialist, does some walkaround and we can watch, and get the Explanation afterwards. ...sorry...I started this post with pocket Management in mind and it turned into something more complex. |

Rainer and Thomas, is this still relevant? Here as well as in the MindSummit Facebook Group, the discussions came to a halt and weren't moderated by someone. Are the lectures already booked, are you looking for a different kind of Input, are you looking for further Input at all?

Whilst realityrocks was referring specifically to close up, Structuring acts and routines and even scripting is a topic well worth covering and is a mystery to many. Whilst close up and stage platform are very different there is a lot from building a stage act that the close up performer can apply to creating a close up set.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your interest and sorry for the silence during the latest weeks. We are working hard on making the next Mind Summit an unforgettable event both with regard to the contents as well as concerning the atmosphere. And we're confident that we are on a very good way. After evaluating the feedback we received in our several surveys we settled on the following topics that will be covered during the three days of Mind Summit 2017:
Actually we are in negotiations with the best presenters for these particular topics that we could find. It's to early to declare 'mission accomplished' with regard to the actual talents but we are excited about the performers that check their schedules for us right now. We will keep you informed anyway. The website www.mind-summit.net will be updated with all information and registration option very soon. Cheers Th. |

Thank you Stefan - even if your suggestions are a little too late for 2017 as you may have noticed.
But we'll keep it in mind for 2018 ... if Mind Summit will be continued. Cheers Th. |

Hi all,
@Thomas, yes, as a good mentalist I knew I was late before I posted 😀 But I did want to get my voice in and I hope there will be a 2018. @Sven, you speak from my heart and have said what I wanted to say better than I could have. I enjoy working and watching young blood better too, hence my suggestion. Cheers Stefan |

So, are you interested in our actual presenters for this year? Are you?
So let's start with the "Close Call" lecture about performing close-up mentalism in the real world. As we already announced in this workshop you will be given key insights into effective close-up mentalism in real-world settings. This lecture is for those who seek the thrill of performing face-to-face, embracing the challenge of the close-up environment and letting you make any space your personal stage. The lecture will reveal genuine experiences of performing for a variety of clients in a close-up setting. It will also provide shared support to performers seeking to refine and develop their close-up skills. Now, actually it was not that easy to find our presenter for this particular topic - a presenter, who is not only a dear friend of ours but as well undeniable one of the most experienced and creative close up performers in the world. Obviously we are talking about ... LOOCH! Actually there is barely need to introduce him - but for the sake of completeness, ... ... he is an Award-Winning Mind Reader and Mentalist who specialises in entertaining at a range of corporate events, private parties and weddings all over the UK and Europe. Looch's unique skills combined with his humour and professionalism have resulted in him quickly becoming one of the most sought after acts of this type for hire in the UK today. He has lectured to thousands of performers all over the world and has written several best selling books on mentalism including Simple and Direct (SAD) and the Tarbell book of the year 2015, The Black Project. He is considered by his peers to be one of the most creative performers of close up mentalism in the world today. We are very happy and proud that we could get Looch to lecture on the topic of Close Up Mentalism at Mind Summit 2017 (http://www.mind-summit.net). Cheers Th. |
