I highly recommend Levent's DVD set. It will answer this question and every other question you may ever have about the linking rings.

Since this question does not involve any secrets or methods, can't someone who has that DVD just answer Steven's question?

Levent's Ultimate Guide discusses Chung Ling Soo's 12 ring routine (in fact, he performs it in costume). To my recollection, Foo's routine is not discussed.

It's a matter of careful reading! (ChIng Ling Foo OR ChUng Ling Soo!) One was Chinese, the other was "Chinese". -- I'll give you a hint: NOTE THE " ". IIRC, the " " was Occidental masquerading as Oriental.

Thanks everyone, esp. Mr. Baker, RiffRaff and Mr. Oslund.
I was only interested in finding out the number of rings used in Ching Ling Foo’s, routine. I will drop Levent, an email and see if he knows. Thanks again everyone! Steven |

I contacted Levent, he said he believes Ching Ling Foo used 8 rings.
It I interesting that this is the 1st time I read anything on magic in America in the 1800's. It would be interesting to know when magic on stage began in America or how far back professional magic was presented in America. |

A well documented account appears in Jim Steinmeyer’s awesome book, The Glorious Deception.
I’ve read the book twice and somehow don’t remember reading that great story! It starts on page 175. Thank you Mr. Steinmeyer, for such sharing your deep love and knowledge of the art and it’s history with all of us! It is eight rings. |
