Jac you should listen to the advice on this thread. I don't think you are going to find a "one liner" for that very specific conversation.

Your second problem was not listening to what they had to say. If I were in your situation I'd have made new friends and mingled with the party. The question of what you do for a living would have come up, and if the setting was right, someone would have asked you to perform. 10-15 minutes later you'd have had a crowd around you. At this point you'd vocalize the fact that you have one last effect, and at the completion give out one or two business cards. Your chef friend might have even asked you if you'd mind showing his boss something. You'd have a killer effect on hand and blow his mind, opening up the lines of communication for your gig at said restaurant. But then there's that one-liner... |

I few weeks ago I asked a question - and lots of comments where made. Maybe I wrote it incorrectly - I was not at their workplace - we where in a random bar- I do not drink - they where drinking. I got upset when the comment was made after I kind of mentioned what if I where to bring a magician to your work place and one responded with "This are rich people they don't want to be bothered" of sourse they did not see I was upset as I laughed right along with them.
Maybe I confused you guys but I did make the following statement ---> "But I kept trying to find an angle to reach the chef, at this point it wasn’t about getting business at that restaurant" this was more the fact that I was upset at myself for not having a response to such a dumb comment "this are rich people they don't want to be bothered" Please guys let stay focused here , lets forget getting business at restaurant and focus on this, any good magician has script for any occasions or most of them especially if you are doing close up. I love when another magician is doing close up and I cant stop laughing at his lines, jokes, scripts, or however you want to call them ( We are entertainers using magic as a tool if we add comedy it definitely helps. Forget selling - Have been doing that since the age of 11, I no longer sell, I help people become financially wealthy. Will gladly help you complete free. I do magic because I enjoy it, please I ask if you have time to read my posts and want to comment or give good tips then I am game, if not we can still play I promise I wont get mad DannyDoyle ...jajaja ..lol just kidding I got you bro! do you have me ? Come to Miami and ill treat to that famous restaurant so you can do some magic or any place of your choice. Thomas pm me will give you my number and tell you what it is, afraid if I say it here it may be too much for some. Im here to help any tiny little bit I know - you guys the pros here - The real deal master blaster magicians. Im just the little engine that is trying. sorry for the typos please - |

There are no hard feelings here. When one asks a question, sometimes he/she receives answers different than what he wants to hear. People were trying to help and you didn't seem to take any of it into consideration. Perhaps you were misunderstood, but regardless, I'm glad you found the answer you wanted to hear elsewhere.

Why do you want to bother people who don't care about you ?
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

I remember seeing an interview with David Stone (a well known French magician)
He told a story explaining how he was doing magic at a high end fine dining restaurant in Europe, It was pretty much all rich people there. One of the men left his table and approached David and gave him a 100 Euro bill. Telling him NOT to "bother their table" They never even saw his performances. In any case Stone said he was devastated and destroyed his confidence for the rest of the night. If this can affect an experienced and highly thought of magician like David Stone, It's perfectly understandable why others will feel the same way.

Wow Ihop impressive story, some people don't enjoy life, the guy that gave david stone that 100 bill seems like one, or may be has the wrong concept that we just want to fool them, who knows. Merry xmas

Ok, I don't have any kind of experience in any type of restaurant. But I have a lot of experience with what you call rich people.
First of all, if your friends tell you that rich people don't care about magic, they are wrong. But, you said it yourself, they are normal people. And some normal people do not care about magic at all! Furthermore, if they are at a high end restaurant shaking ends, enjoying a meal,..., most of them might not care about entertainment AT THE MOMENT. Some of those rich people might love you in a private event, but not when they are paying big money to be with friends and eat good food. If he wants a quiet meal he won't ask for a DJ, even if he is a huge music fan, and having a musician in the club/restaurant might disturb him. Your comment about the guy not enjoying life is just wrong, imho. Not wanting to see a dude showing magic is not the same thing as not enjoying life! The guy might have been enjoying a good conversation with a friend, or discussing future with his wife, or... You get my point. Once again, imagine the setting with a musician. Of course dismissing Stone with a big tip is a bit of an ahole move, but even then, not necessarily. I don't have a one liner to offer you, but you could just present a quick routine involving money (1 to 100$, for instance) to show them in a humourous fashion that rich people can have a "use" for a magician. As does any one else. Just my humble opinion. |

Am I the only one who would love to be dismissed with a huge tip? Of course I'd prefer to get the big tip because they liked my magic, but a tip's a tip.
Reality is a real killjoy.
