We just returned from Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, and we managed to see David Copperfield's show. Quite a lot has changed it seems recently. The finale of the '13' illusion with the disappearing audience members has been taken out and replaced with 'Frank' - something straight out of a Steven Spielberg movie. Very impressive ending to the show.
Also added is Blu the alien, and his UFO. Very impressive, something only a person with Copperfield's budget can do! Quite a bit of mentalism in the show as well, which he pulled of well. I've read a lot of people criticizing him for 'going through the motions' but he was on top form on the night we saw him. |

I saw the show in July. Storytelling helps to bring it all together. Also, even if you don't get called up the whole audience participates in at least a couple of the effects.

How does the balloon pop look?? I heard about it from a friend who seen his show last year?

It is a pretty good effect. He stands in the middle of the audience and places a balloon on a clear stand. He concentrates and it pops. Then he places a balloon inside a clear balloon and blows them up, so the one is blown up and then inside a clear one that you can see through. He places those on the stand and goes back to the stage, and from there obviously he gets the black one to pop inside the clear one, leaving the outer one intact.
It played very well to the audience. He handed out the balloon to someone afterwards as a souvenir if I remember correctly. |

I heard on a radio show that DC's staff currently doesn't allow smartphones into the theater, they pick them up when patrons come in then give them back later, they also send out "souvenir" emails with SOME pictures so they won't feel they "failed to record a memory" of the show. If they're doing that I'm kind of surprised no one here thought to mention it (unless I'm so "out of it" because it's the new standard or something), I guess I'm fine with him being pretty guarded against piracy of material given how expensive it is to develop, but I wonder what everyone thinks about this, is it something only DC could "get away with", would every audience be as compliant as his, or was what I heard a bunch of BS? Just curious...

No, that is not true, nobody takes away your phone when you enter the theatre. They do ask you to refrain from taking any photos or videos of the show, which is a pretty standard request.
Before the show starts they ask you to send them an email, and they then reply. At the end of the show when you read the email, you see that DC predicted things that happened throughout the show. |

I saw the show in the summer of 2016 and the summer of 2015. Both were excellent, and he was not "going through the motions." I will say that when I saw him a few years prior to these two shows, I did feel like he was on autopilot, but I am happy to report that he no longer performs that way.

I saw DC a few months ago.
I think he is really tired which is understandable. |
