Hello, all.
I've often thought of performing an OOTW effect using solid coloured cards instead of playing cards. For example, playing card backed but the faces being blank (with half coloured differently to the other).
Just wanted to ask, do you know where I could get cards like these from, or something sinilar?
Thanks!
RH

It could be easily made with two cans of spray paint, but most would not want to bother. If you want a OOTW challenge, do a four way sort of regular playing cards, by having the card chooser name both a color and a suit for each card. The most obvious problem is easily fixed by giving four spectators push button counters to make sure only 13 of each suit are called (with a little fun on calling the Jokers at the end).

Good plan, thank you. The reason I ask is to help adapt the patter for a more ESP style presentation. The other idea is also a very good one, I'll have a go myself!

Not OOTW, but uses the blocks of solid colour as you mention.

Very nice. That was exactly what I had in mind, thank you.

There is a marketed deck call Symbology that would work wonderfully. It's comprised of four colors and 13 different patterns per color.

If you want a "more ESP style presentation," why not get rid of cards entirely and use photographs. Using a bank of about twenty cards, you could use the OOTW technique to separate the pictures into male/female sets; elderly/young people sets; happy/pensive sets; etc.

Or you could use picture postcards to separate into US/European sets; natural formations/man-made monuments sets, etc.

Or using small art reproduction cards (available from museum gift shops), you could generate impressionist/modern art sets; landscapes/portrait sets, etc.

All of these dichotomies seem to involve a more emotional/intuitive hook than playing cards.

In my opinion, cards can be seen as quite 'tricky'. Other items can be more personal and unique. Put it this way, how many playing cards are framed on the mantlepiece?
Just my thoughts!

Genius! Hadn't thought of that at all! Thanks, that's what I'll use!

I especially like the photos of people. I would use the following:

M B&W H Y
M C H Y
M B&W S Y
M C S Y
M B&W H Y
M C H O
M B&W S O
M C S O
M B&W H O
M C H O
F B&W S O
F C S O
F B&W H O
F C H O
F B&W S O
F C S Y
F B&W H Y
F C H Y
F B&W S Y
F C S Y

where M=male; F=female; B&W= a black and white photo; C= a color photo; H=happy; S=sad; O=old (elderly); and Y= young. You can use the same bank of 20 cards to get any of these four separations. And you need not reveal what has been separated for until after the separation has been made by the spectator. You simply ask them to select photos that they are "drawn to" (sight unseen) to uncover their affinity.

Hey Rory...what do you think of THESE? Smile

This is what I use instead of ESP Cards. I find that they go over VERY well with normal folks and they are also used in a good dozen or so routines that I have for them. In this photo here, I have 10 of them because they go beautifully with Ben Blau's UNFAZED routine. These cards are my own design and custom made for me. They are also marked on the backs. If I made these available in 100% plastic so that they would last forever, do you think there would be any interest? They have the same weight and feel as normal playing cards - just plastic.

Wow, great looking cards - would love to have them.

the marked backs are also plain with some solid color or do they have a design?

Thanks NeverMind.

Here's a shot of the backs. I went with a floral design as I use these for readings and effects with color psychology as a theme. It also hides the marking very well. Smile

Wow! They look fantastic. Do they come in packs of 25 like normal esp or are they in more custom quantities?

Sudo, those are gorgeous.

In the photo the red and orange look a little close together (although that might just be the calibration of my screen) - I presume in reality they are very easily distinguishable?

@ Rory: Yes, they come in a 25 card deck as per an esp deck. Currently, I use these for Ben Blau's UNFAZED, Mark Striving's WARM FUZZIES UP CLOSE, my ZENSENSE and a number of others, but primarily those. Smile

@sjrw: It's not your screen. This shot was influenced by the lamp on the nearby table which changed the hue in the shot. The reds and orange are MUCH more distinguishable in person. Smile
