As for handling it out as souvenier , I do agree with the above post , most just placed the nail back on the table . But if anybody wants it , I'll not hesitate to give it away .

You can't bend it back with your hands, didn't try to reshape them.

And then I doubt you could ever get it perfectly straight again. Madison |

Getting it perfectly aligned would be another matter, and I don't know how it would affect the performance to show a handful of "used" nails rather than pristine, right off the shelf nails. |

It's impossible , once the nail is bent it cannot be bent back straight or anything acceptable again . I've tried getting it bend back , and the best I got was a less than straight and weird looking nail with a dent there . And the effort required to get it back is simply not worth it , it's really painful .

And considering the refill price, I wouldn't ever bother reshaping them ! (And it is impossible so don't think you will be able to do so)

By funny - you mean they didn't like it?
I have no horse in this race It seems strange that they would not like it [as DP loves to do bending effects] And it seemed like they didn't know about the refills [?] Also the idea of it being a strange [alien] item - makes sense [compared to a spoon/fork] - but then isn't everything [old coins/cards/etc] you bring out of your pockets for effects strange items to have on you??? It should all be down to the story/patter I think DP and the gang might mark certain [ones that are similar to their own stuff] effects rather harshly And I'm saying this from the view point that steel is not an effect I can see myself buying [as it's doesn't fit my performance voice/style] |

When it comes to card to box or metal bending, David Penn is actually the least way to go ! He has horses in the race and will never say anything good about this kind of product.

I find their review really odd. Because even if they don't like the product, the product works and it is clear how much effort has gone into it. I don't think it deserves that low of a rating at all. Again, even if they won't perform it, surely they could see how it is valuable to someone looking to do this kind of effect. Very odd.

So it is most strange [the scores] but their reasoning is NOT anything to do on whether it works, or the time that's gone into it And as I said above - they seem to 'not know' about refills [?] Even though it doesn't seem to fit my style - I can see that the review seems somewhat unfair [biased] |

Silly and apparently self-serving review by Penn and friends. (You can have spectators sign coins, but not nails... Really a major issue?!)
Sorry but the Wizard Product Review has become the low point for magic reviews in my opinion. I generally don’t bother watching it anymore. Too many serious and well-done review sites around. E.g., Jeff Stone's www.magicreviewed.com review site. Thanks! Jim |

I'm not certain people here understand Penn's et al. arguments. Especially, Penn says that nail bending is not as interesting as coin or spoon/fork bending. And I think he is right. Give a bent coin as a souvenir or a bent nail, I'm sure many people will keep the coin and some may even treasure it (I've seen it) but I won't be so sure about a nail.
Penn also mentions signature, although he is not being argumentative enough. Personally, I use signature as a way to elevate their interest in the object before showing the bend in real time : "it's different now, not just because it has your signature, but I will make look different than other coins, so special in its look that sellers and even machines won't accept it, so you'll have not choice but to keep it... or throw it". I say a different thing with spoon/fork, and like to talk about a piece of art, and being the artist I'm signing it (which is my justification to use a sharpie and thus Energy Bender). For me, at least, bending nail is not my kind of things, mainly for this reason. There are so many things we can do with coins, spoon, forks, and eventually, keys, that nail doesn't add anything to this. That is also what Penn says, and I fully agree. Sean also says that putting a bent nail on the table/desk is not very "sexy". I fully agree with him. Think about making a ring reappear in your shoelaces vs in your ring chain : the second effect is much more elegant, especially in a paid show. The low rating has nothing to do with the quality of the products or the ideas. This rating only reflects what they think about nail bending, i.e., something that is unecessary in general. But they explained that very clearly, at least, if you take the time to listen carefully. Alex DLF : Penn said good things about OX. Given your reasoning, that would not have been possible. |

With regard to David Penn's funny, odd, unfair or biased (choose the one that fits you most) review about STEEL,
according to quite a few potst above, I'd suggest to anyone who's seeking for some answers just to watch the "Wizard Product Review 23-3-11" on Youtube. Here's the respective link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyD9rYzi94U The product that he's commenting about among others, is the PERFECT NAIL BEND KIT. The "verdict" is yours.

I really like "Steel"...Rasmus did a terrific job with these nails. I had some issues doing the work without looking like "I'm straining" because the larger nails are not so easy to bend (which is good) but I found the PERFECT solution to make this all work brilliantly in performance (You will NEVER get caught!). When I have some free time, I'll make a homemade video of my technique and send it to Rasmus, much like I did with Menny's "Ox Bender" device. I also created what I feel is a "killer" two-phase routine with the highly underrated "Rasmus coin" with a demonstration that looks so REAL it's almost ridiculous. It solved the only problem I had with these beautiful coins (some people wanted to examine the coin afterwards and I didn't want to perform a switch). My Rasmus coin handling has been field-tested for several months and it's a true "worker".
